Nowadays, the effects of climate change bring children to danger. Disasters deprived children of their right to a continuous quality basic education in a safe environment. It is important for students to know first-hand what makes their school unsafe and how to make and keep their school safe. They should know what to do before, during and after disasters. Preparedness is based on a sound analysis of disaster risk and linkages with early warning systems and includes contingency planning stockpiling of equipment and supplies and associated training and field exercises. This Children’s Awareness on Disaster Preparedness Program aims to capacitate pupils on their preparedness before, during and after calamities and disasters prevalent in the locality. The objectives of this program are the following: a. To improve learner’s level of understanding on the hazards and potential risk within the school. b. To increase learner’s awareness on the hazards and possible risk inside the school. c. To engage learners in real-life situation in safety and preparedness activity. DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITIES The school will conduct Seminar Workshop on Children’s Awareness on Disaster Preparedness. This will be attended by all pupils and teachers of the school. Community stakeholders will also be invited in this activity to raise their awareness regarding the program of the school. The School Disaster Management Team together with the SPG will invite MDRRM personnel (Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Team) to be the resource speakers. Training will be conducted at Suguian Elementary School, Suguian, Donsol, Sorsogon. Purchase of materials or kit that they could use during emergencies will also be done. The school will conduct quarterly disaster drills like earthquake drill, fire drill and flood drill in the school to ensure pupil’s preparedness on disasters..
