Dear Richard Ham and Sam Wolsborn Foundation:
I am a graduating valedictorian from Centennial High School, and I plan to attend Oregon State
University in the upcoming fall. I have taken most A.P. classes throughout my four years of high
school, but A.P. computer science stands out the most due to its continuous demand of critical
and creative skills, which prompted my continuing interests and curiosity to explore more in
college.
By consistently maintaining high grades and being a recipient of the honor roll and dean's list, I
showed that I have a strong commitment to work ethic and educational growth. Despite my
academic skills, I develop valuable innovative, influential, and collaborative skills through my
countless hours of involvement in volunteer communities such as the National Honors Society, the
Oregon Food Bank, and Ressurection Lutheran Church's Handbell Choir.
I believe this scholarship will relieve a great deal of financial stress and anxiety from my family's
shoulders. It will allow me to take on more opportunities that will improve my experience. Learning
to analyze, process, and develop algorithms, I wish to use my talents to find solutions that never
existed before. From improving facial recognition technology to helping create artificial limbs,
these changes will improve many lives and leave a positive footprint in the world. For example, the
development of an AI prosthetic arm will allow people to control its movement with their thoughts
by decoding their motor intentions. As technology becomes more dependable than ever, by
dedicating my skills and passion to programs like the Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Group at
Oregon State University, which specializes in the studies of algorithms and systems for making
intelligent decisions in complex environments, I want to enable my creativity, analytical skills, and
problem-solving skills to a position where I can achieve anything I set my mind to and develop new
technology that would leave a positive impact on my community.
