Raised garden – lets you control soil in there so it is good for growing vegetables
Cedar is best used – rot resistant and good with weather
High tunnel – acts like greenhouse but is not heated. Still helps prevent frost. Will extend
spring planting and fall harvest but won’t get through cold winters. Might need to air out in
summer.
Cover ground with black plastic after last frost – this helps heat up the soil and cause the
plant to start to grow quicker. Helps with weeding too.
Start seeds in little trays a few weeks early to give head start. Seeds are cheaper than
plants at the home center.
Tomatoes – pinch off leaves and plant deep to make good root system. Pinched off leaves
become roots
Upside down garden – plant from ceiling to double garden haul
Upside down garden diagram
Water bottle with holes poked in to release water – another way though? Plastic can leach into plants.
Not good!
Rain gutter system
Compost tea
Cover plants with mesh or screen to keep out animals
Peanuts – homemade peanut butter?
Underground/Sunken Greenhouse
Keep the water table in mind when planning – high water table could be detrimental or mean not
building in that area
Sun will come from the south for the northern hemisphere. The farther north you are the more angle
south the sun is. Because of this, have the ‘windows’ facing south.

Air tubes should go around a good bit to pick up the ground temp (and deep enough too).
Have little anteroom to help keep cold air out of growing area.
User stormwater for watering.
Fresno peppers – homemade hot sauce? (could use other varieties – heat level is similar to jalepeno)
Try roasting and fermenting peppers when making hot sauce
Ancho chiles (dried version of poblano peppers) – good for making homemade chili powder
San Marzano tomatoes – good for making tomato sauces (native to Italy)
Kirby Cucumbers – commonly used for pickling (grow dill too?)
