SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE
● Show feelings and opinion
○ We believe the theory is correct
● Show facts and permanent situation
○ The teacher has one sister and two brothers
● Show routines, things that happen regularly
○ They work in the same office
PRESENT CONTINUOUS
● Show things happening exactly at the time of speaking
○ I am watching a video of tenses now
● Things happening around now, not necessarily at the time of speaking
○ Our school is preparing for a big school event
PRESENT PERFECT TENSE
● Used to talk about past events when it doesn’t matter when they happened,
but the consequences of the events can be found in the present
○ I have done my homework.
PRESENT PERFECT CONTINUOUS
● Talk about a situation or habit that started in the past and still going on
○ My sister has been doing her homework since this afternoon. Now she is
still working on it in her room.
SIMPLE PAST TENSE
● Used to talk about an event that happened in the past
○ We visited Bali last year
PAST CONTINUOUS
● Talk about an activity that continued (was in progress) for a period of time
in the past
○ Mom was cooking when I entered the kitchen
○ Mom was cooking when Dad was reading a newspaper
PAST PERFECT TENSE
● Used to talk about an activity that happened earlier than a situation in the
past
○ The manager had revised the regulation before he announced it to the
employers
