FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FOR INTERNAL USE ONLY Updated: September 2021 BADGING VALUE PROPOSITION Why is the badging program valuable to my client and their learners? Representing learning as a badge gives learners a way to share their professional development online in a way that is simple, trusted, and can be easily verified in real time. Badges provide employers and peers concrete evidence of what learners had to do to earn their credential. For clients, badging demonstrates the organizational commitment to employee development/career growth – and can also help promote the client’s brand. It is also a way to engage their learners and show off internally and externally the work they've accomplished by promoting and sharing their digital badges. BADGING AVAILABILITY When will badging be available for Harvard ManageMentor? We are targeting late September/early October, as part of our next Harvard ManageMentor Release. Is badging available for all HBP programs? We are now making badges for Harvard ManageMentor topic completions available to our Harvard ManageMentor clients. Our blended solutions have had the ability to add badges beginning September 2019. At this time, we do not have plans to add badges to Spark. My learner completed a topic last year. Will they automatically receive or can they retroactively claim a badge? Yes, all topics that show as completed will give learners the option to claim and share a badge, even if that topic was completed prior to the release of badging in HMM. Does HBP charge clients for their badges? No; we are not charging for badges. Can our clients customize the badge? No. The badge is not customizable by the client. Will badges be available in all languages? At this time, the descriptive information on the badging criteria is only available in English. Those pages will be translated at a later time. Clients that have multiple languages in Harvard ManageMentor will be able to see the completed badges on their Certification and Achievement page, but the information will be displayed in English. FOR INTERNAL USE ONLY BADGING PROMOTION Where can learners share the badge on social media? Badges can easily be shared on LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook. In addition, badges can be copied so they can be shared over email, or embedded in a website or in the learners’ email signature. We recommend that learners post to their LinkedIn profiles and LinkedIn newsfeed. What is the benefit to the client and learner for displaying the badge through social media? Clients benefit by showing investment in their employees’ leadership development. Learners benefit by showing their credentials in a highly competitive talent market. As skills become increasingly important, badging is a way for learners to easily highlight their accomplishments. Do the learners have to download the badge each time they want to share to another social media site? No, the process is automated through a share button; badges can be shared to all or a subset of the social media channels. Are there tools available to promote HBP‐CL’s ability to provide badging to our Blended clients? Yes. Client‐facing powerpoint slides will be available. In addition, a flyer is being created to leave behind with clients. This flyer shows the new topic badge design. BADGING PROCESS How does badging work in Harvard ManageMentor? When a learner completes a topic, they will l be awarded a digital badge for that topic. That badge can be viewed within HMM and they can be shared out to social media. Can clients turn off badging? No; we think badging is an important part of the experience and there isn’t an ability to turn off badging at the account level. LEARNER EXPERIENCE What does the learner experience look like? How are they notified that they earned a badge? Learners will be notified within HMM when they complete a topic so they can then share their badge. Can learners export badges to other badge storing platforms? No – learners are not able to export to other platforms like Credly. FOR INTERNAL USE ONLY BADGING CRITERIA Can HBP Corporate Learning revoke a badge? HBP CL cannot revoke badges, but we encourage clients to contact Product Support if they are experiencing a situation where they feel a badge (and therefore a completion) should be revoked. Do the badges expire? No – the badges do not expire. What if a learner doesn’t want their badge to be public? Learners have the choice to promote their badge; they do not have to share it or make it public. What keeps someone else from copying a learners’ badge and using it? As with any image and hyperlink, there is nothing that can keep someone from copying the badge. Our team considered this possibility and decided that the benefits of badging outweighed this risk. What data can our clients view related to badge etc. at their organization? Admins can view the topic completion data. BADGING COMPETITION Do other learning organizations offer badging? Yes. Many different types of organizations offer badges: For example Degreed, EdX, Microsoft, Google, Deloitte, SAP, IBM, KPMG, all offer badges ‐ just to name a few.
