Topic: Identity theft among teenagers
Specific purpose: To inform my audience about identity theft, why it is a concern for teenagers,
how strangers steal their personal information, and how to prevent it.
Thesis statement: We must realize the consequences of this fraud and protect our private
information since identity theft is one of the most popular dangers for everyone, especially for teens.
Introduction
Attention material: Imagine this: One day you come back home, you check your computer or
mobile phone, and you see that someone is using your private information in order to threaten you
or commit any kind of fraud. How do you know if you are targeted and what can you do to deal with
this problem? + (According to the Federal Trade Commission, there was a 45% increase in 2020
from 2019 in identity theft, and it is still increasing worldwide)
Thesis statement: We must realize the consequences of this fraud and protect our private
information since identity theft is one of the most popular issues for everyone, especially for teens.
Preview: In my speech, I will inform you about the meaning and types of ID theft, how it happens,
and finally, what we can do in order to stay safe.
(Transition: “Firstly, let’s understand what we exactly mean by ID theft”)

First main point: Identity theft is basically considered a crime and it happens when someone steals
and uses your personal information to attempt fraud and to make money by pretending to be you.



Statistics in cases of ID theft (teenagers are victimized more than adults)
Second main point: Secondly, I would like to inform you about how ID theft happens, and which
ways scammers and hackers usually use in order to get your private information.



They steal your name, surname, bank account number in unsecured databases that you wrote
before
They hack and use your email
They also send you suspicious links without giving their identity to you to convince you as if
it is significant for you.
Third main point: Most significantly, there are some steps and tips that people should take into
consideration in order to stay safe and not to be the victims.



Do not share your private data on unreliable websites
Check your accounts every day
Use difficult and strong passwords for your accounts

If you see it happens, contact and report it to the bank.
