Welcome to ENGL230 TECHNICAL WRITING (online version). If this is your first experience taking an online course, you may experience a bit of growing pains for the first couple of weeks. After that, you will find it a pleasurable and challenging way to take a class. Upon reading this Opening Letter, please read the syllabus completely. If you have any questions on the syllabus, post them to the Ask Prof H Board. I recommend the following to make your experience more effective: 1. Logon frequently, at least 4-5 times a week. You will find that if you stay INVOLVED in the class, you will do better. This is a short semester, 8 weeks, and you will need to double your efforts. 2. Set aside a specific number of hours a week to do your class work online. Say, every Thursday from 6-9 at night, or Sunday mornings from 10-1. Log on at consistent times per week, much as you would attend a regular class at the same time every week. 3. Pay attention to due dates. It’s very easy to fall behind in a course like this. Falling behind will jeopardize your success in the class and eventually create failure for you. All your due dates can be found in the Course Schedule page. Again, stay involved; it’s a 15-week course and it goes by fast. All course communication will be done through Blackboard: 1. Do not post questions to me in Blackboard mail. These should be posted to the Ask Prof H. Bulletin Board. Do not send questions to my regular college email address. If Blackboard is not available, retry at a later time. 2. Personal communication can be directed to my Blackboard inbox or to my hernande@atlantic.edu, address. See you online!...Dr. Hernandez
