Patty Sierrda CQA on Emmanuel Levinas July 23, 2019 Chapter 7: The Face Chapter 8: Responsibility for the Other Upon reading the two chapters of Levinas’ book, I learned a lot of things. I learned the difference of desire and need. Desires cannot be satisfied while needs can. Desires feeds itself on its own satisfaction. I also learned that having responsibility for one’s identity is also important because it shapes your relationship with other people. The self is irreplaceable meaning, there is only one you and no one can copy nor imitate that. That is why we have to take full responsibility of ourselves and treat it like it’s the other because no other person must do it other than ourselves. 1
