Should Canada implement social policies to equalize opportunities for people? For instance, should social policy dictate that everyone gains access to post-secondary education, regardless of income or life chances? What do you think? Back up your position with course material Implementing social policies to equalize opportunities for people would be ideal, as it would help remove certain structural restraints on low-income families and allow for more social mobility between classes. Using the example of providing equal access to post-secondary education for everyone, having higher education would allow people living in poverty to pursue jobs that would help them to advance in social classes, once they complete their education. In addition, not having tuition costs would allow people to use their disposable income for other purposes, such as healthcare or housing. Nevertheless, providing these opportunities would not necessarily ensure that a person escapes poverty or advances in social classes; even if the tuition is free, there are other additional costs that come with studying, and some people choose to go straight into the low-paying jobs after high school to make money; getting a post-secondary education would make it hard to do a job simultaneously, and make enough survive. Therefore, other supports would have to be provided as well, to ensure people have the luxury to even use their time pursuing an education.
