Welcome
Welcome to the Analytics program!
We are excited to have you along on an adventure to figure things out with data. The program
involves courses involving the entire data cycle within a project, from data collection, storage,
analysis, and communication.
The courses in the program use a project-based approach and are offered in a hyflex (hybrid
and flexible) delivery model. This means that there is less emphasis on memorization and
exams and more focus on building a portfolio. Each course involves many small projects that
build towards larger midterm and final projects and integrate knowledge from many different
areas. The program has a strong focus on data science as well as communication and domain
knowledge.
The program's goal is to leverage students' backgrounds with new skills in computer science to
figure out new ways of doing things, making data-informed decisions, analyzing complex data,
and providing decision-makers with the very best direction.
Mission
Our mission is to provide students with a cutting-edge education within the growing field of data
analytics by exposing students to new and emerging technologies, access to professionals and

Program of Study
The Analytics programs consists of three semesters. Two semesters of approximately four
months, followed by a seven-week capstone or placement course in the third semester. There
are breaks between semesters, and the program takes approximately ten months to complete.
Please see the academic calendar for important dates in each semester.
Academic Standing and Promotion
The information in this section is from the Academic Standing and Promotion Policy in
place at Cambrian College. Please view the policy document to see complete details.
Program of Study
For each program, the College defines a Program of Study that lists the courses
organized by semester. Programs of Study are reviewed regularly, and changes are
made where necessary as part of the annual curriculum review cycle. Each new intake
of students is associated with the most current version of the program. Students are
required to complete the program version assigned when admitted to their program.
Minimum Passing Grades
A minimum passing grade of 50% is required in all courses offered in the Analytics
Program, except for a select group of courses that either have a higher passing grade
or are pass/fail courses. Refer to the course outline for the passing grade and
evaluation plan for each course.
Repeated Courses
A student may attempt a course two (2) times. A student wishing to register in a course
for the third time must have approval from the Academic Administrator with academic
responsibility for the program in which the student is registered. Should a student not be
able to complete a course because they have exhausted the number of available
attempts, they will not be able to graduate from the program. In situations where there is
limited capacity in a work-integrated learning experience, a student repeating a course
cannot displace another student who has progressed through their program
unrestricted. In the case of repeated courses, the calculation of the program GPA
includes only the best result. However, the student’s transcript records all grades.
Interruption of Studies
In cases where a student’s studies are interrupted for more than one academic year, the
College may require the student to repeat courses. While courses completed in the last
five years are generally considered current, programs may impose stricter standards.
The Dean’s decision, with respect to the suitability of an older version of a course, is
final. In cases where curriculum revisions have occurred during a period of interrupted
study, students will be required to follow the revised program unless otherwise
approved by the Dean. Students wishing to return to a program suspended during their
interruption of studies must see the Registrar determine if program completion is
possible.
Advancement from One Semester to the Next
Promotion with Good Academic Standing
Students progress from one semester to the next upon achievement of a minimum
semester GPA of 2.0 with no failures. The information in this section is from the
Academic Standing and Promotion Policy in place at Cambrian College. Please view
the policy document for complete details.
Promotion on Probation
Promotion on probation refers to students who achieve a semester GPA between 1.50
and 1.99 and/or who have one or more failing grades. Students who progress on
probation can register in the next semester, but course registration is subject to course
prerequisites.
● First Probation (P1) Students on probation for the first time are encouraged to
meet with their program coordinator to map out a learning plan as well as
review success strategies.
● Second Probation (P2) Students on probation for a second consecutive
semester must meet with their program coordinator to develop a Learning
Contract. The Learning Contract specifies the student’s responsibilities and
College’s expectations.
Program Withdrawal
Students who officially withdraw from the College within the first ten days of class have
all courses removed from their transcript. Students who withdraw after the first ten days
but by the last day to withdraw in a semester receive a “W” (withdrawn) for all courses
on their transcript. Students who withdraw after the withdrawal with a “W” date receive
an “F” (failure) for all courses on their transcript. Those who do not officially withdraw
receive grades earned on their transcript. The College publishes annually academic
dates and deadlines on the College website as well as in the staff intranet portal.
Program Graduation Requirements
GPA and Work Integrated Learning Graduation
● Completion of the program of study with an overall minimum program GPA of
2.0 is required to graduate.
● Students in the Analytics program must also complete a minimum of 420
hours or the equivalent of work-integrated learning experiences to graduate
from the program.
Timelines for Graduation
The College expects students to complete their program of study within the following
time limits based upon the original program or course start date:
Credential
Length
Ontario College Graduate
Certificate
One-Year Program
These timelines align with Ministry guidelines.
Approval of the Dean, with academic responsibility for the program, is normally required
to extend these time limits. However, the College may grant students with disabilities
extended time limits due to a disabling condition as verified and recommended by the
Glenn Crombie Centre.
Student Success
Faculty and Program Coordinators
Full-time College Faculty and Coordinators have assigned office hours each week and
encourage students to make appointments if there is an academic concern.
eGrades
Students have access to their academic progress through eGrades and can determine if
they require academic support and advising at any time in the semester. eGrades is the
electronic grade book that allows Faculty to manage, calculate and submit final grades.
The tool, more importantly, provides students with the ability to view and measure their
progress through the course. This grade book indicates to the student and the
Academic Program Coordinator when the student is in jeopardy of failure.
The Academic Program Coordinator is classified as an advisor on the myCambrian,
which allows access to student academic records. If a student is identified as being in
jeopardy, the Academic Program Coordinator will meet with the student. The student
may be referred to the Student Success Advisor or the Learning Center for academic
support or to the Glenn Crombie Centre for Student Support.
Student Success Plans
If a student is identified as being in jeopardy for success in a course or in the program
for any reason (grades, missed evaluations, student conduct, extended absences, and
so on), the professor and student will complete a Student Success Plan. This form
identifies reasons for concern and allows for two-way dialogue between students and
faculty to create a clearly outlined plan to help the student get back on track. The
Student Success Plan may include referral to additional supports, goal setting, or
outlining specific strategies for success. Student Success Plans will be reviewed at a
specified time interval to ensure that students are back on track.
Academic Success Advisors
Cambrian offers department-specific Academic Success Advisors. The advisor is
introduced in person to the students during the first-day program orientation and plays
an active role in student support. Students may contact the advisor for assistance at any
time. In addition, if a student falls below the minimum requirement for any course, the
advisor will initiate contact with the student.
Academic Success Advisors are part-time support staff responsible for providing proactive academic student-centered support. They are available to communicate with
students via social media and during assigned office hours. Academic success
advisors assist students in identifying their needs academic and/or personal.
Please see the program-specific Academic Success Advisor under department
programs for the specific analytics stream

Attendance, Absences, and Missed Tests
Attending classes is an important part of post-secondary education. To ensure your
success in the program, it is essential that you remain connected to your class schedule
and content. Please review the Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy with respect
to absences, graded evaluations, and missed tests.
Extended Absences and Extenuating Circumstances
Students should be prepared to assume responsibility for content from missed classes.
For extended absences from classes, it is essential to notify the Program Coordinator
as soon as possible so that all professors are made aware, and a Student Success Plan
can be developed. Emergency situations, illness, or extenuating circumstances
requiring extended absences may be accommodated on a case-by-case basis, but clear
and prompt communication is essential to this process.
Absences from internship placement courses are strongly discouraged.
Missed Tests/Graded Evaluations
Teachers are not obliged to provide for missed tests or examinations, and students
must be prepared to forfeit marks allocated to such work during their absence.
Students who need to miss a scheduled evaluation must inform all involved professors
as soon as possible to arrange agreeable alternatives. In many cases, it is possible to
accommodate a different test date for theory-based evaluations. However, some
circumstances require considerable resources and faculty time commitment, which may
not be rescheduled.
Capstone Projects
Students in Business Analytics can choose between a capstone or placement in their third
semester. Students in Health Analytics and Crime Analytics are only able to take the capstone
course. Students from all three streams can work on projects together. Project size is limited,
and there are generally only 1-2 students on each project.
The capstone project is a lot of fun and involves working with a partner organization for seven
weeks on an in-depth project. Projects come from many different industries and involve many
different techniques and outcomes. Projects can include analyzing data, building dashboards,
working with new technologies, programming, statistics, qualitative research, quantitative
research, software integration, research, or many other topics. Every project has an industry
client that the students work with to determine the scope, milestones, and deliverables,
understand the client’s needs and develop and implement a solution for the project. Students
are expected to meet with their clients to ensure the project stays on track.
In addition to the project, students also attended a weekly class that discusses our projects,
allows students to learn from each other, work on project management, and make sure the
project is on track and within a defined scope.
This full-time, intensive project in the final semester is a great way for students to acquire
experience and showcase skills in a focus area of interest.
Internship Work Experience Guidelines
Internships are intended to provide students with hands-on learning and skill
development opportunities. Professors will mentor students to demonstrate skills and to
provide guidance. Absence from internships may negatively impact your exposure to
skill acquisition.
The internship includes competency evaluations, which involve ongoing observations
from employers and skill evaluations of students. Missing internship days will limit a
student’s ability to successfully demonstrate skills to the employer and professors and
may cause the student to be unsuccessful in the course. Professors are not obliged to
provide for missed tests or examinations, and students must be prepared to forfeit
marks allocated to such work during their absence.
Internship placements are designed to provide students with hands-on experiences and
exposure to actual business situations.
