Course Description:
An introductory course designed to help each student: improve muscular strength; gain knowledge and
understanding of weight training theory and practice; develop a personalized weight training program.
Class Dress Code & Equipment:



Each student must bring appropriate athletic clothing & equipment each and every day. T-Shirt (Long or
Short Sleeve), athletic shorts or pants, & tennis shoes are required. No sandals, boots, or open toed
shoes. Owasso Public Schools dress code will be enforced.
It is recommended, not required, students have separate bag for gear. Athletic lockers will not be
provided.
Optional equipment that may be used if needed: Training gloves, weight belts, straps or braces for joint
support. This equipment is not required or provided.
Grading Scale:


Each week there will be 100 total points for dressing out and participation. 50 points for dressing out
and 50 points for participation. 20 points daily. Students will not receive credit if they do not dress
appropriately and/or participate in class.
If a student is physically unable to participate in class, a doctor’s note and/or hand written letter from a
parent/guardian must be turned in for that day. Information regarding what limitations a student has
should also be included.
Basic Class Information:



Weight Training & Fitness will consist of the following: free weights, stretching, plyometrics, cardio,
core exercises, etc.
Before beginning any kind of weight training students will be taken through the proper instruction for
the given workout and a proper warm-up.
Sample exercises that will be used in the class are as follows: Bench Press, Squat, Curls, Deadlift,
Crunches, Dips, Pull-ups, Push-ups, Lunges, Laps at the track, agility drills, etc.
Workout Project:

During the spring semester you will do a workout project.

You will be responsible for deciding some personal goals for yourself and then develop a personal
workout to help you obtain your goals. At the end of the 6-7 week workout plan we will test your goals
to see if you obtained the goals you set for yourself.
Cell Phone Policy:

Students will be allowed to have their cell phones during class to listen to music while they work out.
This policy is subject to change based on student’s behavior.

Food & Drink Policy:

You may bring water to drink to class, but you CANNOT be making a mess/spilling the drinks. There is
no food allowed near the platforms EVER!
Class Rules:

I have one very simple rule…. RESPECT! This rule covers all aspects of behavior and expectations.
Respect for people, equipment, course, and facility are expected to be followed at all times!
Personal Property Disclaimer:

Lockers will not be provided to secure belongings, but there will be classroom procedures to mitigate
the risk of lost/stolen property. DO NOT BRING ANYTHING OF VALUE TO CLASS! I am not liable
for lost/stolen wallets, phones, computers, jewelry, money, clothes, etc.
