HRM2000 Human Resources Management Research Report (25%)
Fall 2022
The purpose of this assignment is to understand the impact key areas of HRM have on an organization’s
ability to achieve business goals. You will work in groups of 4 to complete this assignment. Group work
requires that you work collaboratively with your classmates to complete the assignment. Should you have
any barriers that prevent you from doing so, please ask your professor for accommodations on or before week
#5 of this course schedule.

Write a brief description of the HRM topic and focus the group has chosen.
a. See Appendix A
b. You must read and understand the chapter material on your chosen topic before engaging in
Library research. You may not restate or reteach material from the course (textbook,
PowerPoint, lectures)
c. Your formal research must expand the depth of your knowledge of the topic beyond the content

2. Each student is to find 2 appropriate research articles on this chosen topic. From the individual article
recommendations submitted by each group member, the group will choose the two best suited to your
research topic. Write an annotated bibliography for these two articles.
a. Research articles must be Academic, Scholarly or Professional Journal Articles. If you do not
know what these are or where to find them, be sure to book an appointment with your Humber
Librarian. Here is a link to HR specific resources at Humber’s Library

b. Research material cannot be drawn from other textbooks, wikis/Wikipedia, newspaper company
or consultant website, blogs, “internet searches,” or other simplistic forms of reference &/or
publications
c. An annotated bibliography requires you to summarize, assess and reflect on the articles you

3. Find and describe a business case study/scenario that provides an example of the topic in a real
business workplace (benchmarking/best practices example).
a. Include the name and location of the company.
b. Explain why their situation is appropriate to connect with your chosen topic and research articles.
c. The example can come from almost any credible source. Some examples of sources could be
newspaper articles, magazine articles, television broadcasts, podcasts, webcasts, and personal
experiences.
d. Your example must reference a real story about a real company with real business outcomes.
Submission of a Project Outline is required in order to receive a grade on the presentation part of the assignment.

Analyze and compare the two research articles from both contrast and synthesis perspectives.

Describe the similarities in the research findings your chosen articles.

Establish and explain the connection between your chosen area of HRM and the achievement of
business goals and outcomes.
Summarize the case study/scenario you chose as a benchmark for your topic.
Using the key learnings from the two research articles, analyze this company
i. What have they done well? What can they do better?
ii. Your analysis must draw on the research findings presented in the research articles you
have chosen.
Make recommendations about what this company can do to improve their approach and
incorporate the research findings/best practices into their HR Management.
What are the potential impacts to the business?
i. If done well – what are the potential (positive) impacts on business outcomes/objectives
that can be realized by implementing your recommendations
ii. If your recommendations are not implemented, what could be the negative impacts on
business outcomes/objectives
iii. This step requires you to revisit the connections that HR has from the impacts at the
individual level to the overall (collective) organizational level.
Posted with this assignment, for your reference, is a Power Point framework/template. It often helps
students to see the logical flow of the research & presentation materials. Your presentation must be no
less than 10 minutes long & no longer than 12 minutes.
Presentation visuals must include proper and accurate references/citations.
Failure to reference is considered a violation of academic integrity and can result in a mark of 0 for the entire
group.

All presenters actively participate in the presentation, speak clearly and do not read the slide
contents. Introductions and transitions between presenters are smooth and seamless.
