Don Chen 10/17/22 IDS2935 P7 Exploratory Writing 3 1. I identified that fast fashion is a significant reason why the fashion industry is unsustainable and how consumer access to knowledge about the grievances of the fashion industry can help consumers make more sustainable choices when buying cloths. 2. The problem of consumer access to information about the fashion industry does not specifically harm a group. I think that having more people make more sustainable choices will prevent problems that are inherent with the fashion industry: labor abuses and environmental damage. Therefore, it could be reasoned that this problem harms the laborers of the fashion industry the most, but this is quite a stretch of reasoning. 3. I do not think anyone is really at fault for the lack of consumer access to information about the grievances of the fashion industry. It is unreasonable for fashion companies to tout their own grievances when they are trying to make money. I think that the fashion industry is just not of major concern in the context of sustainability when there are problems such as fossil fuel power plants, global warming, electric cars, etc. The unsustainability of the fashion industry was just sidelined for more evident issues. Although environmental advocates could focus on this topic more. Individuals who really care about sustainability should also learn more about this topic. 4. I think I have responded to this question adequately in the previous response. 5. There are many brands of clothing that are identifying with the principle of slow fashion in order to attract customers who are trying to be more sustainable. They are producing cloths that are high in quality so that they do not have to produce a lot of cloths and consumers do not have to buy a lot of cloths. Don Chen 10/17/22 IDS2935 P7 6. I would say individuals have a lot of control over their actions of buying cloths. If an individual wanted to be sustainable, they can search for brands that are very sustainable. If an individual wants to buy a lot of cloths and actively participate in fashion, they can. If an individual is not financially well off, they do not need to buy a lot of cloths. 7. The change is an alternate business model. Instead of the practice of fast fashion, some brands are changing to slow fashion. 8. Slow fashion is the practice of producing high quality cloths that last a long time so that the brand does not have to produce a lot of cloths and the consumer can use the cloths for a long time so that they do not have to buy a lot of cloths. 9. Brands that practice slow fashion want to attract consumers that care about sustainability. They usually advertise based on a characteristic of their product that is sustainable, which can spread the information about the unsustainability of certain parts of the fashion industry. This market practice aims to change the consumer mindset of the population base. 10. My practice of buying cloths is sustainable, although I doubt many people will adopt this practice. I only buy cloths when I need to, thus I rarely buy cloths. My cloths last a long time, which means that I consume very little cloths.
