QUESTION 1 [15 MARKS]
Figure Q1 shows a portion of a piping system with a hose of 80 mm diameter. If the
average velocity of the water at point C is 8.50 m/s, determine the required power
output of the pump. Neglect friction losses.

QUESTION 2 [15 MARKS]
Figure Q1 shows a pipe with water flowing through at a velocity (V). The manometer
containing mercury is held in the position as shown in Figure Q2. Take the density of
mercury as ρHg = 13600 kg⁄m3 . Determine the following:
a) Differential pressure between point A and point B,

QUESTION 3 [5 MARKS]
A horizontal venturimeter with inlet diameter 20 cm and throat diameter 10 cm is used
to measure the flow of oil at 0.8 specific gravity. The discharge of oil through
venturimeter is 60 litres/s, calculate the reading of the oil-mercury differential
manometer. Take 𝐢𝑑 = 0.98.
