Beowulf Shield Project
Now that we have read Beowulf, we need to take a moment to breathe (1…2…3..). That’s enough! It is
project time! I know that you want a nice team project, but Beowulf destroyed Grendel by himself.
Therefore, you have to tackle this by yourself!
The Shield!
You will create a shield worthy of the King of Geats. On this shield you will need to put information that
will let any challenger see the attributes that make your culture strong. Remember that you are AngloSaxon.
1. What attributes/characteristics do Anglo-Saxons view as important? (3-4 please)
2. Support these attributes with citations from the text (quotations and line numbers).
3. Include at least one citation that demonstrates the changing religious views of Anglo-Saxon
society (quotation and line numbers).
4. Include a slogan that sums up how you approach life or a challenge as an Anglo-Saxon.
Physical Details
Your shield needs to be at least the equivalent of 2 - 8 ½’’ x 11’’ sheets. It must also have color.
You will be assessed on your demonstration of Anglo-Saxon values and textual supports as well as your
presentation (does it look nice /neat or does it look like you completed it last period?).
Assessment
Ideas and Content: 30 points
Artistic Presentation: 20 points
This assignment is to be completed as homework and is due on Friday, November 16th, 2012.
