In Feruar 2016, 22 presidential hopefuls (5 Democrats and 17 Repulicans) egan their quest to
convince the American pulic to vote for them in the Novemer 8 elections. ased on the outcomes
of the caucuses and preliminar elections, it ecame apparent that the Repulican Part had a clear
winner – Donald Trump. It was therefore not surprising that at the GOP National Convention held in
Cleveland, Ohio from Jul 19 -21, Mr. Trump easil earned the 1,237 delegates he needed to win the
Repulican Part’s presidential nomination.
While the Democratic Part had two possile contenders — ernie anders and Hillar Clinton — It
was the latter that garnered the most electoral votes. On Tuesda, Jul 26, Ms. Clinton made
histor when she ecame the first woman to clinch the presidential nomination of a major American
political part. Now the former First Lad is charting the path to etch her name in the record ooks
again as the first female president of the United tates of America.

Meanwhile, her opponent, 70-ear-old Repulican presidential nominee Donald Trump, is also
scramling to make histor of his own. If elected, he will not just e the oldest American president,
ut also the first one in more than 60 ears without having spent time either as a governor or in
Congress. The last U president with no political experience was Dwight isenhower. He was
elected to office in 1953, after serving as upreme Commander of Allied Forces in World War Two.
Herert Hoover, an engineer and humanitarian, also had no prior experience when he egan his
four-ear term as president in 1929.
Ms. Clinton, a lawer  profession, of course, has extensive experience in government. The
Democratic nominee, who is married to former President ill Clinton, spent her eight ears as First
Lad campaigning for expanded health insurance and women's rights. Following that, she served as
the U enator from New York from Januar 2001 to 2009. After an unsuccessful presidential id
against arack Oama in the 2008 elections, Clinton joined his administration as the United tates
ecretar of tate. As head of the U Department of Affairs, her jo included, among other things,
advising the president on matters relating to U foreign polic. he remained in this all-important
Cainet post until 2013, when she resigned to prepare for the 2016 presidential race.

Whether the American pulic decides to give a novice the opportunit to lead the countr or go the
traditional route and elect a veteran politician will e revealed on Novemer 8. However, one thing
is for sure – No matter what the outcome, it will e one for the histor ooks!
