An easy way to remember how to pronounce -ED endings
The most important thing to remember is that it’s the final SOUND in the verb and NOT the final
letter.
The /d/ sound
If the word ends with these sounds, it’s pronounced as /d/
 B, G,J, L, M, N, R, V, W, Y, Z
 rubbed, begged, called, hemmed, penned,
 tarred, revved, rowed, stayed, buzzed
The /t/ sound
If the word ends with these sounds, it’s pronounced as /t/
 C (makes the /s/ sound, F, PH, GH (makes the /f/ sound),
 K, P, S, X, CH, SH, SS
 faced, graphed, laughed, stuffed, cooked, stopped,
passed, waxed, watched, washed, passed
The /id/ sound
If the word ends with these sounds, it’s pronounce as /id/
 T, D
 Wedded /wɛdɪd/, listed /lɪstɪd/ started
*remember with these two sounds, the ‘-ed’ ending
forms a separate syllable
