SYLLABUS OVERVIEW 16-18 YEARS OLDS 8 Why Get Career Ready? Every young person needs high-quality career guidance to make informed decisions about their future. Relevant and informative career guidance is necessary for social mobility. Despite the need for quality careers guidance for young people, it is one of the most lacking areas in schools around the world. In 2013, Gatsby introduced the Gatsby Benchmarks which offer useful insight into effective academic models that prepare students for future careers. Immerse Education’s Career Insights programme is dedicated to delivering programmes that meet the eight important pillars that make up the Gatsby Benchmarks as outlined below. A stable careers programme Encounters with employers and employees Learning from career and labour market information Experiences of workplaces Addressing the needs of each student Linking curriculum learning to careers Encounters with further and higher education Personal guidance 9 The Career Insights programme has been really (for lack of a better word) immersive. I think Immerse has given me a lot of clarity in terms of having a better understanding of what a career, or even university education, in medicine looks like. - Mia, Career Insights Participant 10 Architecture is ever evolving, from the Shard to the Shanghai tower, Amager Hill to the Bahrain World Trade Centre, and as such comes an ever-increasing need for new talent with the right blend of technical skills and architectural vision. On this programme, you will learn the basics of architecture and design principles, and be inspired by the architectural vision of peers and professionals while cultivating your own creativity. This module will introduce you to the key principles of architectural design, from balance to rhythm, emphasis to contrast, to visual, proportion and scale. You will establish an understanding of the fundamental link between creative design, technological, environmental considerations, and social and historical context, and how these factors may influence an architectural design project. SYLLABUS OVERVIEW 16-18 YEARS OLDS Architectural Design Development Architecture & Design Aim of the Architecture & Design Programme 11 Architecture & Design Architectural Design Realisation Your creative design skills will be pushed into the next stage of the design process in this module - the realisation of design concepts into technical details and visualizations. You will be tasked with bringing an idea to life, using architectural design software and design principles taught in the previous unit. This module is designed to challenge and advance your technical skills in the field. SYLLABUS OVERVIEW 16-18 YEARS OLDS 12 In this module, you will be exposed to the scientific principles of materials used in architecture, engineering and construction. The goal of this unit is to build a firm understanding of the tools used in the field and the questions an architect may need to consider when pursuing a design concept. This unit will equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to identify refurbishment solutions that can improve a building’s performance, align it with future needs, and produce reports and record drawings of buildings. You will have the chance to examine current issues in relation to global warming and explore how modern architects are finding solutions to these complex problems in their designs. You will apply the knowledge and skills taught by producing your own sustainable refurbishment plan for a building of your choice. SYLLABUS OVERVIEW 16-18 YEARS OLDS Sustainable Refurbishment Architecture & Design The Science of Materials 13 Architecture & Design SYLLABUS OVERVIEW 16-18 YEARS OLDS Free-Hand Architectural Designs Introduction to Interior Design Drawings are a means of communication that can solve many problems when it comes to representing an architectural space and its elements. Learn how to draw, by hand, an entire architectural design with basic graphical representations as well as different observational techniques and custom atmospheres. Floor plans, sections, facades, and different perspectives, are some of the elements you will be able to draw by the end of this module. Learn to develop an interior design project from a client’s vision to the detailed preparation of the final project. In this module, you will explore the world of interior design, form an understanding of how measurements and proportions work, as well as establishing the right criteria when selecting materials, lighting, colours, and textures for the best result. 14 Ideas are brought to life in this module where you’ll learn how to portray spaces in a semi-realistic way, creating a bridge between the technical and the artistic. You will learn how to generate an illustrated presentation of an architectural project, focusing on two aspects, axonometric and pedestrian, to enable you to effectively communicate the idea behind an architectural project, with artistic flair. SYLLABUS OVERVIEW 16-18 YEARS OLDS This part of the unit will inform your personal project as you build digital designs that will be a part of a design portfolio. Architecture & Design Digital Illustrations 15 Architecture & Design Collaging Collaging is one of the many ways you can express an architectural design project, involving the use of evocative images to effectively share an idea with a client. In this module, you will learn the foundations of the digital collage technique to represent your own architectural project, using different programs and plug-ins for modelling and image editing. By the end of this module, you will have the tools to create collages to share your vision effectively with others. SYLLABUS OVERVIEW 16-18 YEARS OLDS Our tutor, Fortina, was amazing. He knew the answer to every question you could think of about engineering. My favourite part of the course was going on industry visits and seeing how things operate. We got to visit the underground and explore how engineering plays a vital role in how it works. The course gave me great insight into the world of work within the field of engineering. - Ferris, Career Insights Participant 16 W W W . I M M E R S E .
