METTLER TOLEDO Mettler-Toledo AG Laboratory & Weighing Technologies Im Langacher CH 8606 Greifensee Greifensee, October 2006 Improvement of Anti-Static kit for XP analytical balances We are pleased to inform you that the Anti-Static kit for the XP analytical balance (Item number: 11107761) will be improved to generate even faster weighing results starting September 2006. The reason for the modification The Anti-Static kit generates positive and negative ions. They are meant to neutralize the weighing sample instantly. However, there is a slight chance that the side draft shield may also accumulate some charges (depending on the condition of the surface of the glass and the settling time after closing the door*). These may cause a small force which decays slowly over time, resulting in slightly slower stabilization times. 1. Sample or tare container is discharged correctly. + -+ + -+ - + - 2. But a small amount of ions may remain on the draft shield glass which could disturb stability and repeatability. 3. After some time this static charge will disappear.. - + -+ + - + - + + - *When the draft shield was cleaned using cleaning detergent) and if small amounts of it remain on the draft shield, ions may be accumulated.. If the settling time after door closing is configured to a relatively long time (e.g. more than 10 seconds), the weighing result may be disturbed. Description of the modification The following 2 points will be improved. 1. The point-electrode will have 2 carbon wheels to ground the inner side of draft shield. 1/3 METTLER TOLEDO Mettler-Toledo AG Laboratory & Weighing Technologies Im Langacher CH 8606 Greifensee Greifensee, October 2006 2. One side draft shield with conductive material will be included in the kit to replace the standard glass. • • Inner side of glass is conductive material to release accumulated ions. Due to this special coating, the glass is slightly colored. How the improved Antistatic kit works 2 carbon wheels of the electrode are always touched on the inner side glass (Grounding the side glass all the time). To keep the space for 2 carbon wheels working correctly, the clip for the current electrode does NOT need to be installed. Please exchange the side glass (near the electrode) with the other glass which is included in the kit (conductive material) Conductivity can be checked with an Ohmmeter on the inner side With conductive glass and carbon wheels, the ions on the surface of draft shield are released quickly and effectively. When will the improved kit be available? The improved Antistatic kit for the XP analytical balance will be delivered starting September 18th, 2006. *The item number will remain the same: 11107761 At the same time, the optional point-electrode (Item number: 11107762) will be improved to be equipped with 2 carbon wheels and one side glass with conductive material will be included in the package. The delivery of the improved optional point-electrode will be starting September 18th, 2006. *The item number will remain the same: 11107762 2/3 METTLER TOLEDO Mettler-Toledo AG Laboratory & Weighing Technologies Im Langacher CH 8606 Greifensee Greifensee, October 2006 How should we cope with customers already using the existing Antistatic kit?
