In addition, I will apply these concepts to my personal experiences and observations. The aim of this report is to demonstrate my understanding of management concepts and their practical application; while simultaneously reflecting on the effectiveness of relationships between people and teams in organizations and projects. 2 MAIN DISCUSSION 2.1. Relevance of Topics Covered in Modules 1.1, 1.2, and 2.1: Module 1.1: Environmental Analysis and Actions for Managers In Module 1.1, I analyzed the organizational environment of CloudGO.vn, a CRM focus company facing multiple internal and external challenges. Managers in different industries, including IT, sales, and HR departments, must respond differently to the current and future states state of the organization. For the IT department, continuous skill updates are essential to remain competitive. Leaders must prioritize employee satisfaction and retention by providing attractive incentives and fostering a positive work culture. In addition, investing in R&D, building partnerships with technology vendors, and adopting new technologies in alignment with business goals are essential strategies for IT managers. In the sales department, slow growth requires improved sales strategies and possibly hiring more representatives. Managers should focus on ongoing training to improve sales strategies and consider expanding the customer base by hiring additional sales representatives. For HR, the potential growth of the company requires additional HR support. Managers should anticipate the need for more HR staff to support the growing workforce. Module 1.2: Comparing Operational Management and Project Management In module 1.2 I compared management functions (planning, organization, leadership, control) from module 1.1 with the ten elements of project management from the Project Management Institute. While management roles are general principles that apply across disciplines, project management roles are specific to the project context. Despite the differences, there are commonalities between operational and project management. Both are goal-oriented and mutually dependent on the success of each project. Operations managers can learn adaptability and stakeholder management from project managers, while project managers can learn efficiency and risk reduction from operations managers. Module 2.1: Comparing Operational Management and Project Management TORRENS UNIVERSITY AUSTRALIA 4 In Module 2.1, I conducted a communication style survey and analyzed the results. The survey revealed that my communication style is primarily professional, reserved, factual and indirect. To communicate effectively with me, others should be clear, patient, and considerate of my communication preferences. Measures of effective communication include being a good listener, maintaining eye contact, looking for non-verbal cues, and using simple and polite language. Don'ts include interrupting, showing negative body language, yelling, criticising, and acting defensively or abusively. 2.2. Group Discussion Activities: During the three group discussion activities, my perceptions and experiences often differed from those of the other group members, although not everyone completed the same survey in the second activity. This diversity provided valuable insights and perspectives on different management concepts. For example, when I discussed communication styles in Module 2.1, I found that my preferred style is professional, reserved, functional, and slightly indirect. Understanding this preference helps others communicate with me effectively and ensures clear and patient interactions now and in the future. 2.3. Learnings and Future Application: Through the activities and discussions in the three modules, I gained a deeper understanding of management principles and their practical application. As a possible future manager, I learned the importance of adaptability, efficiency, stakeholder management and risk reduction. I plan to implement these learnings by fostering a work environment that encourages open communication, employee growth, and customer-centric approaches. 3 CONCLUSION This critical discussion report examined the main principles and theories of management discussed in modules 1.1, 1.2 and 2.1. It highlighted the relevance of these issues to my role as a leader and the importance of effective communication in a diverse team environment. As I reflect on the group discussions and my insights, I recognize the importance of continuous learning and practical application in building high-performing organizations and cultivating effective relationships between people and teams.
