1. List at least on idea or thought from the movie about teaching and learning. If there’s one thing that the movie truly left me with, it is the realization that learning and teaching is never standard. For a long time, I’ve witnessed how society have grown accustomed with utilizing on essentialist approach when it comes to teaching and learning. This concept highly manifests in our country’s educational system. Teaching strategies are standardized and the learning capabilities as well as the acquired knowledge of students are measured generally. While this has been long effective and applicable for many generations in the past, the world today proves that learning and teaching shouldn’t be the same for everyone. Similar to the movie, Ishaan was able to represent every student there is reminding the world that each individual is uniquely created, and therefore we all have distinct sets of learning capacities. Through the implications of the teachings that Ram utilized, every student will be empowered; no matter what hindrance they may encounter. 1. Recall and write down one situation similar to any scene in the movie which you had experienced or observed. The movie honestly spoke volumes to me, I related to Ishaan, in a way, and I felt really represented throughout the entire film. To be more specific, the scenes which projected Ishaan’s indifference and distance towards his peers were something that reminded me of myself in the past. The only difference was that I wasn’t dyslexic, though I also went through mental instability that ultimately affected my performance in school, my overall motivation and drive to be my best self, and my social relationships that were built around consistence. I went through personal matters that caused setbacks, and it wasn’t easy to those around me to understand what I was going through and comprehend the impacts that it entailed, especially in my academic performance. Like Ishaan; I also had a Ram; a person who believed in me and helped me get back on track when everyone was already doubting me. If it weren’t for them, I’m sure I wouldn’t be able to go through what I went through. 2. What are your personal reflections about the movie? You may include your feelings, emotions, thoughts and insights while watching the movie. Movie like such are always able to leave me a specific mark. They create an impact to my becoming, and every time I space out and assess my life, there’s always an afterthought about the lessons I’ve learned in the film that I could apply in real life. In the case of every child is special, there were two major realizations that I was left with beyond all the other epiphanies. Often times, people are either denied or stigmatized because they are not like the rest. Individuals like Ishaan is a reminder why we should never neglect those who are different, and why we should never be ashamed of being different. If someone isn’t like the rest, it doesn’t automatically mean that they are incapable. To be blessed with the lens like Ram and see how we could help every person the way they need to be helped is a blessing not just for a few people but for the entire humanity. By watching the film, I learned that I can be more like Ram, and that I shouldn’t be ashamed of being Ishaan. Which brings me to my second realization; the more personal one, which is that no matter what life puts me through, there’s always hope, there always will be someone who will somehow shine and inspire me to lead a better life. 3. As a student nurse, suggest one way in which you can help improve the standards of the health education in nursing profession inspired by the movie. As a student nurse, I saw the significance of bringing light to the vitality of increasing the awareness of those in my profession regarding this matter, and coming up with courses of action to alleviate the solutions that we could cater patients like Ishaan with. Ultimately, one thing that nursing have taught me through the years in this specific educational field is how important it is to recognize an individual’s mental health and mental difficulties, and to tend to the needs and assistance that they require in this area. As a student nurse, I strive the persevere in my profession in order to be of service to people like Ishaan and become my own version of Ram. I am well aware that I will be able to fulfill this aspiration by utilizing strategies and developing my skills as an aspiring nurse.
