Book Report
Introduction
The book I read was entitled, Lost in the Internet. It is an E-book which was written by Kris
Stokes and Madhuria Chakraborty. The book which was illustrated by Gaurav Wakankar was
published by Pratham Books. This book is eighteen pages long. I enjoyed reading this book and
was fascinated by what happened. By reading this book, I learnt about some new terms such as
TCP-Transmission Control Panel and Packet Switching and encrypted. It is an imaginative,
expository piece with a science fiction theme.
This book had three characters; Kunai, his mother and Aunty TCP. Kunai is a young, dark
skinned boy with short, black hair. He is short and slim in stature. He has a round face with a
tiny, round button nose and big bright eyes that can open as wide as saucers. Kunai
is an adventurous boy who enjoyed watching videos on the internet. He seems to be quite brave
and fearless as he experienced extraordinary events when he got sucked into the internet. On
the other hand, Kunai was also a bit stubborn as his mom had cautioned him about watching
too many of the videos but he continued. Kunai’s mom is another character in the book. She
seems to be a loving and patient mother. Aunty TCP, an imaginative character, was very
knowledgeable and patient with Kunai. She was not at all surprised that he was inside the
internet. Hmm... I wonder why.The story took place at Kunai’s house and inside of the internet.
Scary, right? Below is a report of my understanding of the book.
Summary of Events:
Kunai was a little boy who enjoyed watching videos on the internet. His mother always
cautioned him and told him that one day he might just get sucked into the internet. This did not
deter him as he was, I think , ``an internet freak”.
One day, exactly what his mother had been warning him about happened. He got sucked into
the internet. Kunal was scared and wondered how he would be able to return to his mother.
Along his journey through the internet, he met TCP, the Transmission Control Protocol who
explained to him all the workings of the internet. Kunai was very interested and fascinated so he
kept on questioning Aunty TCP to learn more.
Soon he learnt that all computers, phones and other such devices are all connected on the
world wide web. An idea popped into his head and so he asked Aunty TCP to get him back
home. He was relieved when Aunty TCP told him that it would not be a problem to do so but he
would have to be broken into tiny pieces. Broken into tiny pieces? How would he be put back
together? Kunal was terrified and disagreed with the idea immediately. He asked for another
way to be sent back. However, he needed to know his address to be able to get home. He first
gave Aunty TCP his home address, silly him. Aunty TCP informed him that he needed to know
his internet address. She told him that every computer has a special number called an IP
address. Oh boy, now he was in a quandary. He did not know his internet address. Aunty TCP
got in touch with his mother and explained everything to her. Aunty TCP used the information
Kunai’s mom gave her and searched in her DNS book. The DNS book contained all internet
addresses and soon she was able to connect to his mother’s computer.
In the end, Aunty TCP had to encrypt and disguise him so he would not get stolen or lost on his
way back because she knew that this was not the safest way to send him back. Kunai was sent
back through wires and cables, travelling at lightning speed. He plopped out of his mother’s
desktop computer. Although he enjoyed the adventure, he was relieved to be back home in the
arms of his mother. Wow, interesting, right?
I really loved reading this book as it was fun, adventurous and out of this world. I enjoy
watching videos on the internet just like Kunai. Everytime, I watch a video, I imagine being
sucked into the internet. That usually sends shivers down my spine. In addition, my mom is
always telling me that I should stop watching so many videos and she sometimes takes my
devices away from me. This makes me sad but now I guess that is a good thing because I really
would not want to be sucked into the internet. After reading this book, I realized that it may not
be such a good thing to spend so much time on the internet. I now spend less time on the
internet and engage in other activities such as reading and playing outside with my scooter, my
drone and my dog, Rex.
Why would you recommend this story to others:I would recommend this story because it's very
adventurous and makes you imagine all sorts of make believe things that can happen if you
were to get sucked into the internet too. This can cause our imaginations to go wild. Children
who love technology, adventures and using their imagination will definitely enjoy reading this
book. I also liked that towards the end of the book, the authors wrote a brief explanation of what
the internet is and how data travels.
Conclusion
This book was very interesting to read. I learnt a lot about the internet that I never thought of
before. Now, we are spending more time on the internet and on our devices because of online
learning. To end my book report, I wrote a poem entitled, Lost in the Internet.
Poem
Lost in the Internet
Being lost is a scary thing
But lost in the internet, that just stinks!
All alone and afraid;but maybe this is all in my brain.
Lost in the internet? That cannot be!
Let me think again, I think it’s nothing, I’m just having a little walk inside my imagination
Now that is something, isn’t it?
Lost in the Internet? I must be dreaming!
Now that is something I would’t call a vacation
My brain must be tired, I think
To dream, to imagine that I am lost in the internet?
Shivers run down my spine, I am blinking as if I am going blind
Lost in the Internet?
Broken up into megabytes and gigabytes?
Somebody, please wake me up
I am not enjoying this adventure again!
Lost in the Internet?
Mind boggling , isn’t it?
Always in the back of my mind; till the bitter end
Something I can’t seem to get rid of, like a true friend!
(Not that I want to get rid of my friends)
