Direct materials Activity 1 Manufacturing can be defined as the production of merchandise for sale with the help of human resources, machines along with chemical and biological processes. Production is the process of creating goods and services. It requires a set of input to produce a set of output. Our country is blessed with abundant sources of raw materials in making basketry products, while macrame uses only one material – the cord, which is also readily available. This lesson focuses on the acquisition of knowledge and development of skills in the production of macrame and basketry products. Skills such as preparing a project proposal, computing for cost and the selling price, and formulating criteria to evaluate macrame and basketry products are all included and given emphasis. It is hoped that this lesson will not only provided knowledge and skills needed in producing macrame and basketry products but also develop efficiency, creativity and resourcefulness in the students.
