Activity 1 Does the Saber-Tooth Curriculum still exist at present? Yes, it does exist even at the present time. As what we learn about the parable, curriculum is timelessness, it is dynamic in nature. The curriculum we have nowadays is anchored to what we had in the earlier years. The fundamental of our education system must be preserved and the new curriculum should always be based from the old ones. The societal changes is inevitable, who knows what will be our situation in the next few years. Hence, we have to adapt to the changes and learn new methods on how we will satisfy the needs in our current society. An example, in this pandemic, certain change has to be made, including the methods of teaching, which is distant learning. It is because of the situation we are in, that revised some aspects in our education system. Another example, our military has now equipped with new equipment, hence their curriculum must also adjust and added subjects pertaining to the equipment’s functionality. Describe the curriculum that exists as described in the article The curriculum in the parable indicates that we are not supposed to linger to a certain type of curriculum but rather be guided by it to adapt and develop new ones that would best suit our needs. It also implies that the students should learn not only about things being taught, but learn how to think freely and develop ideas that would help improved the educational system. What does the author mean, when he said, “a curriculum should be timeless?” Explain The fact that almost everything changes constantly, like our environment and society for that matter, our educational system should respond to these changes to fit in on what our society needs. It has to evolve in accordance to the changes in our society. What is the difference between education and training? Education is to learn to acquire certain knowledge, while training is learning by exercising what is being learned. Activity 2 Observing a Curriculum in the Classroom Observation in the classroom The classroom per se has a very nice environment, though the class I observed was before the pandemic, so I noticed the classroom being overcrowded, students sat a foot from each other. Nonetheless, students were participative and the teacher was prepared and had her materials ready to teach. First thing that teacher did, same as always, was to start the class by an opening prayer and then gone to check the students’ attendance. The teacher then proceeded to show her presentation on the board and called out the names of students to provide ideas about the lesson which was about to teach. The class were able participate and had engagement with their teacher, in which I would say a very nice thing to see in the classroom. The teacher explained further and deeper about the lesson, students were kept throwing ideas and participated all throughout the class. All the curricula were almost present base on my observation, from the method of teaching which is guided by our government agencies, starting the class with an opening prayer, and maintained professionalism all throughout the lesson. There are also materials which were prepared and presented to the class such as the traditional visual aids and PowerPoint presentation which was presented through a projector. There was an exchanged of thoughts were the students were participative. The teacher was able to build an environment where students were confortable enough to volunteer in answering questions. Clearly, the teacher had a lesson plan that guided her to finish the lesson timely, without compromising the quality of teaching. Lastly, the assessment, the students were given assignments to test their understanding about the lesson. Observation in the interview The teacher would want to ensure that all of her students are participating during the class. She also said that if there are behavioural problems in any of her students, she would try the best way possible to address the issue, but if it isn’t successful, the guidance office is the department she might seek assistance from. According to the teacher, she would consider the lesson as a success, when students are participating and answering questions base from their own ideas and do not rely on the notes they have written. Nowadays, she had to use other supporting materials to facilitate the online class. She needs to have a stable internet connection, in which she said is the challenge in distance learning, because of the intermittent connection problems that cut her out from the class. Moreover, she would evaluate the students’ learning via providing quizzes and activities, this will help her to categorize her students according to their performance, this will help her pay more attention to those who needed a little push to bring out the best out of them. She also has a constant communication with her students and
