From VR to AR: The Evolution of Immersive Technologies
on August 09, 2023
Forget flying cars, immersive technologies like VR and AR are what's capturing imaginations now.
In the 1950s, VR headsets were bulky and expensive. Now, we've seen a massive change in the
VR industry and also AR is becoming more affordable.
Earlier, people’s main entertainment source was watching
movies and TV shows on television. But, now they’re
finding new ways to entertain themselves. VR / AR are
gaining popularity as they offer a better and more realistic
experience to the viewer instead of just staring at the TV.
Oculus and Sony PlayStation VR are two of the most
famous VR headset brands dominating the market. VR and
AR are the next generation of entertainment technologies.
AR headsets like Microsoft HoloLens and startup Magic Leap have shown the huge potential of
mixing virtual and real. AR enables new ways to visualize data, train people, collaborate, and
enhance work. Apple aims to soon take AR mainstream with rumored AR glasses and builtin
iPhone capabilities.
JioImmerse
In 2023, Jio launched a VR/AR platform called JioImmerse, which allows users to experience
content in a whole new way. One of the most popular uses of JioImmerse has been for watching

Airtel 5G + VR gaming
The launch of 5G in India opens exciting possibilities for
immersive virtual reality gaming. The combination of VR headsets
and 5G connectivity will enable highly interactive, multiplayer VR
gaming with advanced graphics and minimal lag. Airtel expects
VR gaming to be a killer application that will propel 5G adoption.
The ability to stream and render complex VR worlds on the cloud
will make highfidelity immersive gaming possible on lightweight
headsets.
Apple Vision Pro
This year, Apple announced the Apple Vision Pro, which it intends to market
next year. They used a high-end thunderbolt display with up to 120Hz
refresh rate. It's as though we're looking at a massive XDR screen. The
Vision Pro contains cameras that allow the user to view objects 몭oating

nearby and access them in the same way that we can on our smartphones.
It integrates with Apple's ecosystem to provide a premium experience
through the use of AR and VR.
Virtual reality has the potential to transform online education and remote work. The future of
education could involve students attending immersive virtual classes using VR headsets. VR
headsets allow us to attend lectures or meetings interactive way than traditional flat screens. We
can look around the virtual world, create our own character, and interact with others which is not
possible on a flat screen. This makes paying attention, learning, and collaborating with others
easier.
VR Downsides: Don't Get Too Immersed
While VR and AR offer many benefits, there are some concerns regarding negative health effects,
addiction potential, and reduced social interaction. Excessive use could harm our eyes and replace
the difference between the real world and the imaginary/ virtual world. While smartphones have
made it easier to stay connected, they can also be a source of distraction. It's important to
maintain a healthy balance between virtual and reallife interaction as technology continues to
advance.
Conclusion
VR and AR are the only new technologies that could change how we interact with the world. But
we need to be careful of their potential risks, such as addiction, eye strain, and cyber sickness.
Despite the remaining challenges with AR and VR, their popularity is steadily increasing.
Incorporating new technology into our daily routines is crucial.
P.S. Don't forget your VR goggles!
