EXPERIMENTAL AND 3D NUMERICAL MODELING OF TUNIS SOFT SOIL SETTLEMENT Aya Rezgui , Lasaad Ajam , and Belgacem Jalleli Université de Tunis El Manar – Ecole Nationale d’Ingénieurs de Tunis, LR14ES03-Ingénierie Géotechnique, BP 37 Le Belvédère, Tunis, Tunisia Keywords:, Tunis soft soil, settlement, FLAC3D modeling, one dimensional consolidation test ,experimental results ABSTRACT: The soft soils of Tunis are considered a difficult challenge for construction sites and geotechnical works. Characterized by a soft clay, Tunis silt can exhibit significant settlements under loads. These settlements are likely to occur slowly due to the low vertical permeability of this mud. Pore water moves slowly, resulting in long-term consolidation settlement. The present contribution concerns the development of a numerical model to predict settlement measurements of the Tunis soft soil under oedometer conditions. The 3D numerical results of the consolidation will be compared with those obtained experimentally.
