Agriculture and
Globalization:
An Analysis of the
Filipino Life
Give your reflection
on the following:
1.“Less and less
Filipinos continue to
regard agriculture as a
sustainable way of
life.”
2. “Small farmers are
selling or pawning
what little land they
have...to pay for the
enlistment of a
member of the family
for work abroad.”
3. Give one (1) important
contribution of
Agriculture to:
a. the global connectivity
of the Philippines
b. the impact to Filipinos’
quality of life
Answers
This is one of the most painful realities of
today— less and less Filipinos continue to
regard our major source of resources as a
sustainable way of life. However can you
really blame people with this thinking given
the multitude of challenges farmers face in
order to keep their businesses afloat? —from
costly farm supplies to new pest breeds—and
yet wind up with a low to no return on
investment. On top of that, there's the neglect
for farm laborers' living and working
circumstances, climate change, and so on. As
the passage said, “living off the land has
become an act of anachronism”, from my
point of view, agriculture has been ignored for
so long that, with all of the issues mentioned
above, it is progressively becoming a nonsustainable way of life.
It’s devastating how many of our food
producers belong to the country’s poorest
sectors and are vulnerable to hunger. Their
wage are barely enough to support their
needs so what other way can they do in able
to survive? Agriculture plays a major part in a
lot of industries so if this keeps going on, it
could have a detrimental effect on our
country primarily on our economy. For
instance, who would cultivate our farmlands?,
that would make sustaining our sources more
difficult.
It mainly contributes to the global
connectivity of the Philippines through
trade—most of the products we trade came
from or have components that are from
agriculture.
It provides our needs, even those of us who
don’t own a farm. Food and clothing don't
c. the ability to sustain
natural and human
resources
How can the Angelite
core value of
COMPETENCE be
reflected in this
scenario?
My Commitment:
Signature/Affirmation:
come out of nowhere; many garments are
manufactured from wool, cotton, and other
materials produced by farmers and ranchers.
It allows us to sustain our natural resources
by making it possible for us to cultivate these
from our own lands without the need to be
dependent on other countries and according
to adb.org, it continues to be the major source
of employment. Agriculture is not only a
major source of natural resources, but it also
employs a large number of people by spurring
the growth of industries and expanding
employment opportunities in sectors such as
retail trade, services (transport, finance), and
food processing, all of which are directly
related to agriculture, which is why it must be
prioritized.
The Angelite core value of Competence can
be reflected in this scenario by some of its
components.
Entrepreneurial
and
organizational skills, for example, are crucial
among farmers in enhancing productivity and
market access for long-term agricultural
growth through improved household food
and income security. Furthermore, I would
also like to add accountability, particularly in
the part of land reform. When we take action,
we don’t just implement but rather, be
responsible for everything that entails with
them.
From this case analysis, I was able to get
more perspective and insights on this
particular subject. As I become more aware
of these serious issues in our country, the
more that I become inclined in helping and
taking action. Therefore, I would do my best
to have more knowledge so I can put action
to my words.
Little by little, my words shall soon be put
into action.
