PROCEDURE
A. PREPARATION/ROUTINES
Before the start of the session, the teacher will lead the students in prayer. Afterwards, he/she
will take the class attendance. The students will be asked to settle down and prepare for the
activity.
B. MOTIVATION
PEOPLE BINGO
The students will be working in pairs for the activity. Each pair will accomplish a modal “bingo”
worksheet. The worksheet contains a table with five rows and five columns, each box
completing the sentence “Find someone who…”, which serves as a possible description for
someone in the class. These descriptions use modals depicting ability, futurity, obligation and
probability.
They will ask their classmates to write/sign their name on the box that describes them. The
goal of each pair is to make winning bingo combinations the fastest. They will be asked to return
to their seats once they are done.
After the game, the winning pairs will be asked to share their findings from the game. They will
be asked to rephrase the sentence to include the name of their classmate.
E.g. “Find someone who…
Can teach tricks to a dog.”
(Let’s say a student signed their name on the space below this description)

Student A can teach tricks to a dog.
The student shall be asked to elaborate on the sentence. The teacher will take note of the
sentences and process the class’ sharing. The discussion will serve as an introduction to the
lesson.
C. LESSON PROPER
The teacher will be facilitating the lesson by asking questions about the sentences from the
game. From the collective answers in the discussion, the students will arrive at the definition of
modals.
The teacher will discuss the lesson further through direct instruction. He/she will be discussing
the different modal verbs and the different meanings they convey depending on their usage.
The students will be asked to give sample sentences using modals. After the lesson is
understood, the students will prepare for a group activity.
D. ACTIVITY
MODAL DIALOGUE
The students will be clustered into groups of five. Each group will be given an assigned situation
for which they have to construct a dialogue. The sentences in their dialogue must contain modal
verbs. Their presentation will be graded according to a rubric.
