War Experiences Ms. Hiley World History- World War 2 Challenge You are a historian who will be presenting at a World War 2 symposium(a conference or meeting to discuss a particular subject). You are going to research a specific social group (like African Americans, women, Jews, etc.) to understand what their experiences were during World War 2 and what factors shaped this experience. You need to gather information and present it in an engaging format. Engage Complete this social identity wheel. (You will do this with Ms. Hiley) Our social identities affect the way we are perceived and treated by society, it affects our experiences. In your journals, write down what social identities you have. Pick one social identity and explain how it shapes your experiences. The Red Tails was the name given to a group of African American pilots during World War 2. Check out this trailer for the movie based on the Red Tails. Being African American at a time where there was still segregation in America meant that these men had a very different experience than white soldiers. When we learn about history, it’s important to look at the wide range of experiences people had during an era/event. Explore You will be assigned a specific social group to research. You will use this graphic organizer to help you take notes on your topic. You may also want to check out the requirements for the presentation you will make with this information. You can use your textbook, classroom books, and information from appropriate sites. Apply You will use your research to do the following: 1. Create a google slides presentation, prezi, screencast,video, or other format of presentation detailing the experience of your assigned social group. 2. You will present your research to the class as part of our World War 2 symposium. 3. After listening to your fellow historians’ presentations, you will be creating a blog post on WordPress comparing and contrasting the experience of the social group you researched and that of one of your classmates. Be sure to include: ● A thoughtful title ● Images or graphs ● At least 2 paragraphs of writing 4. You will then comment on 2 classmates’ posts with any insights they might have missed or your thoughts on their topic.
