Chapter 7 and 8 from extremely loud and incredibly close These 2 chapters are jampacked with info about both oskar’s mental wellbeing as well as grandmas relationship with her husband. It starts with oskar having to perform in his play, in which he experiences existential doubts and fantasizes about killing a man. 12 weeks prior to this he went out with abe black, who was next in line in his list of “black”s he had to question about his dad. After abe he went out to see a mr. Black who used to be a reporter of war. He talks a lot about war and the meaning of life with mr. Black, but unfortunately mr. Black had no info concerning Oskar’s father. When oskar returns home he has his usual beef with his mom about his mom “not loving” dad yada yada. During these times, Oskar keeps updating his mental wellbeing from desperate to mediocre to depressed to incredibly alone, indicating his changes after conversations with his mom. After this last change, he goes to apologize to his mom for rehashing the beef and she says she aint mad she just sad. Bruises. Grandma time: this part tells the story of how grandma and Thomas moved into a house together and how basically everything instantly went to shit. When grandma was asked to write her life story, she just pressed the spacebar a lot and told Thomas she was going blind. Also they only acknowledge each other in nothing spaces without really acknowledging each other, we also see grandma’s pov on the entire airport debacle. This is where the chapter ends.
