Charles darwin By me Natural selection ● Individuals of a species which have the most suitable features to survive will continue to live and breed and pass their features. Individuals who don’t have the features that equip them to survive will perish. This form of selection is used to explain the theory of evolution. Charles and his work ● ● ● Charles Darwin(1809-1882) was born in England and he considered being a doctor or a priest but decided to become a naturalist instead. In 1831 he traveled the world on a ship called the beagle, he was mainly concerned with geological specimens, one of which were finches collected on the Galapagos islands. He discovered variations between islands particularly in the size and shape of the beak. The beaks gave him an idea how evolution might take place. He reasoned that on each island the birds were adapted to feeding on particular food. For example, he thought that because giraffes spent their lives stretching to reach leaves on higher branches, their children will be born with longer necks. But we know now that’s not how genetic inheritance works.
