Singh 1 Daamanpreet Singh Professor Graeme Abernethy ENGL 102A May 18, 2023 Comparing and contrasting two nature poems Without any doubt, the poems 'Gentle Frog' and 'The Mighty Oak' depict valuable message to us.I feel that both poems convey that no matter, how hard the environment and situation is, to keep yourself stand in such circumstances of hardship make us enough strong and set an example for others. Now, I will discuss the importance of a creature and a tree by elaborating on the main points. In the poem 'Gentle Frog' narrator wants to describe that a small aquatic creature of charming colour bear hard situations while living in a pond of lily pad; still it doesn't do complaints to any.On the contrary, in the poem 'The Mighty Oak' a tree with strong branches and has great strength always there for birds and travellers while tolerating thunderstorms and natural calamities. It's selfless service attract the narrator towards it. Whereas, a frog lives solely and only makes efforts for its own existence. A quotation from such poem 'A stoic sentinel amidst the green' which means like as a guard, it looks steadily and perform strong duty(Porter line, 7); Contrastingly,'A guardian of the forest lands' form the poem 'The Mighty Oak' too elaborates the oak tree acts as security guard of wild land, however both's work is different in case of pleasing others (Justine, line 10). Singh 2 It really makes the poet strange that a small creature, frog when it croaks , the sound of it adds beauty in the air.Not only,it attracts the interest of present ones , but also adds thrills and creates harmony with the environment. Sometimes it thinks of impossible past acts which were hard to accomplish while making sound. As compared to it, oak tree stands form ages at a single place with deep roots, whose shiny green leaves make a very peaceful sound. The melodious sound of leaves assists many birds to find shelter on it. It's easy for a frog to move to the waterside and croak where it wants, on the other hand for oak, movement to any other place is impossible with a huge trunk, but it spreads from root to broaden its horizon. A graceful sense of frog and a symphony croak indicate creepy and supernatural thrills. 'Oh frog thou art a creature of wild / And yet, in thee, a sense of grace is found' from such quotation, it is clear that while living in wild forests, a great sensibility it holds(Porter, lines 13-14). 'So let honour thee, dear frog of mine / And in thy beauty, find a wondrous sign', which means do honour that great creature whose beauty reveals wonderful symbol of natural power, when it makes sound means croaks it intertwined narrator's heart with nature(Porter, lines 17-18). Nevertheless, oak tree whose stability flaunts, from the quotation 'In autumn, thy leaves, begin to changes / To golden hues, that are so strange / And when the winter winds doth blow', when weather changes its leaves turns down into pretty golden colour that is very strange, whilst, in winter winds, they wave with winds blow, it all happens naturally that's why it is known as the king of forest who ruled an area where it locates (Justine, lines 17-19). Even the chirping and singing of birds is too supervised by it, and it is crystal clear from the lines 'Oh oak tree! Thou art a king / In the realm all creatures sing / Thou art a Singh 3 wonder of nature's way, which means it's wonderful as all happens naturally(Justine, lines 2123). From a wonderful line 'As though thy soul helds secrets none hath seen', from gentle frog, and 'A treasure that will ne'er decay' from 'The mighty oak' delineate that a frog holds heavy secrets inside its heart which none can judge from its activities, which oak's tree strength is a treasure which cannot deompose and would lasts ever(Porter, line 8)(Justine, line 24). Hammering to the last nail, even though both the poems of forg and oak illustrate the toughness and traits of them which keep both to become for other ones is secret holder and catches the interest of others, whilst others are strong enough which cannot break down. From it, it is evident that both natural living beings are the beauty of nature but with different values. Singh 4 Works Cited Justine, Cassandra. "The Mighty Oak."
