1. My intended sample (participants in my study) consists of (state who and how

The participants in my study consist of 60 out of 150 second grade students.

2. Key demographics (characteristics of the sample) are as follows (e.g., age range,
sex, distribution, ethnic breakdown, socioeconomic status, location [where are these
subjects located?], etc.):
 Age range- 7-8 year old students
 Sex distribution- 30 males 30 females
 Ethnic breakdown- Caucasians, African Americans, Hispanics, Asian
Americans, and Arab Americans
 Socioeconomic status- students from low, middle and high SES levels
 Location- Demopolis (Marengo County), Alabama
3. State what type of sample you plan to use (i.e., convenience, purposive, simple
random, stratified random, cluster, systematic).
Stratified random sample
4. I will gain access to and/or get contact information for my sample through the
following steps:
Using Stratified Random sampling, boys and girls from all SES levels and
ethnicities represented in the 2nd grade will be assigned numbers randomly. Letters
will be sent to parents explaining the research and to request signatures for
participation. Students will not be identified by name; rather by their randomized
number.
5. What, if any, are the inclusion/exclusion criteria for participation in your study:
SES levels and ethnicities will be represented from the 2nd grade. Students with
various learning levels will also be represented (i. e., learning disabilities, regular
ed., special ed. and gifted).
6. External validity:
a. To whom do you think you can generalize the results of your study: Explain. It
can be generalized to all second grade students in Demopolis City Schools.
