Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, an Institute of National Importance, is famous for her legacy of diversity in the arena of Engineering and Technology.
IIT KGP attracts top talents at all levels and takes pride in its academic standards and research. The Institute provides multiple avenues for the students to learn inter
and intradisciplinary subjects during their tenure at this temple of learning. Students of our Institute are being exposed to various courses, which are academically
acclaimed worldwide.
Our students put their best efforts to learn beyond the boundaries. Nurturing the students towards holistic development, shaping their personalities and imbibed
them with qualities of a good, responsible and ethical citizen of this country is our primary goal. CDC operates with the support of faculty members from various
academic divisions and trying its best efforts to achieve this goal.The strong commitment to providing quality manpower to Industry and academia, which
indirectly helps in nation-building, attracts our coveted recruiters to visit our campus regularly. We value their partnership and confirming our untiring support to
them. Moreover, we welcome all our new partners to our campus process and look for a long healthy relationship.
In the last few years, CDC has taken initiatives to value the engagement of each specific company through the Company Relation Index (CRI). It considers some
critical points like internship engagement, PPO conversion, placement engagement, profiles versus the number of departments opened, postgraduate
engagements, etc. CDC also took the initiative to engage Post Graduate students for long term projects (one semester / two semesters) at Industry. CDC serves
as one of the main coordinators to advertise various academic engagements with any company that wishes to collaborate with IIT Kharagpur like Micro-Credit, Guest
Lecture, Chair-Professor, R&D engagements, etc. Hence, this is to appeal to all the recruiters to spare their valuable time on these aspects as per the opportunity.

Participation
IIT Kharagpur strongly encourages
the international participation of
its students and faculty. Apart from
securing international internships
and training in reputed institutes and
organisations, IIT Kharagpur students
have proven their mettle time and
again at International competitions and
conferences. Few of the competitions
include Hult Prize, KPIT Sparkle, FIRA
World cup, SAE competition, Mahindra

International Semester
Away Programme
This programme was initiated
with an aim to provide students
with international exposure and
an opportunity to learn from the
best academicians worldwide. The
Semester Away Program allows
Undergraduate, Postgraduate and
doctoral students of IIT Kharagpur to
spend up to one year doing research
or coursework at a reputed university
in India or abroad and has gone a long
way in furthering research in India and
abroad. ISAP includes various courses
ranging
from
nano-technology,
bio-mechanics, IoT and Robotics to
supply chain network modelling. IIT
Kharagpur also started its first GIAN
courses providing an opportunity to
national and international participants
seeking experience and knowledge
from reputed institute faculty.

developed a vehicle-based mechanized broom to
clean the 2100 acre campus area. The technology has
been successfully tested across the campus during the
present lockdown situation.
IIT KGP students secured 1st Runnersup position at the NEC Hackathon:
Environment. The PAN India
competition organised by NEC （日
本電気株式会社） and HackerEarth
witnessed participation from 1149
teams from all over the country.
IIT Kharagpur startup - Infinity
Box has won the Hult Prize Beirut
Regionals 2020. Infinity Box is a novel
initiative by a group of young Kgpians
who aim to change the dynamics of
the food delivery industry by replacing
single-use plastic containers with
reusable containers.
IIT Kharagpur Students won the
National Finals of CFA Institute
Research Challenge 2019-2020 and
went on to represent India in the
Asia-Pacific Regionals.
Students have established dominance
Students at IIT Kharagpur have successfully
collaborated and completed projects with ICMR for
vaccine delivery in remote locations using drones.
Researchers at IIT Kharagpur have implemented a
45 minute testing tool for Covid 19 called Covirap at
reasonable prices and hope to make it commercially
available soon.

The SRIC looks after all the sponsored research activities of IIT Kharagpur starting from project submission, project
management including accounting, recruitment of research personnel, interactions with the funding agency, protection of
IPR and technology transfer. It plays a vital role in the initiation of new research initiatives of the Institute and implementation
of various national initiatives.
Student Research Groups
KHARAGPUR ROBOSOCCER STUDENTS GROUP: A research group sponsored by the Centre for Excellence in Robotics with
an aim to make autonomous soccer playing robots, participate in and secure podium finishes in international tournaments
like the RoboCup Small Size League and Humanoid Simulation League.
AUTONOMOUS GROUND VEHICLE: A multidisciplinary research group working under the Centre of Excellence for Robotics
Research working towards building a full-stack self-driving car with Level 5 Autonomy. Ventures of the group have
been supported by industry standards such as SolidWorks, VectorNav Solutions, and Clearpath Robotics. AGV has also
participated in international competitions like the Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC) and made the institute
proud by securing second place.
AERIAL ROBOTICS LAB: A student research group working towards building autonomous aerial vehicles by developing
drones that are capable of autonomous flight, localization in GPS-denied environments, tracking, and interaction with
mobile ground robots as well as other drones. The team has successfully collaborated and completed a project with ICMR
for vaccine delivery in remote locations using drones. ARK also participates in international drone competitions like IMAV
and IARC. In 2019, the team bagged the First position in the International Micro Aerial Vehicle Competition held in Spain.
TEAM KART: TeamKART is the official Formula Student team of IIT Kharagpur. The team designs, manufactures and tests
formula-style prototype race cars and participates in various Formula Student competitions across India and abroad.
TeamKART secured an overall 10th position in Formula Bharat’20 and overall 5th place in FSEV Concept Challenge 2020.
Highlights
IIT Kharagpur accords pivotal status to research and development
in line with its firm resolve to make a positive contribution to
society. The Institute is widely acclaimed for the quality and
breadth of its research enterprise, and particularly for its openness
to multidisciplinary research.
The Sponsored Research & Industrial Consultancy (SRIC) Cell
IIT Kharagpur in collaboration with University of Alberta, Canada
has launched a Joint Doctoral Degree Program (JDP) to create
academic exchange between faculty and students.
IIT Kharagpur has received IDBI trusteeship for developing
light-weight parts for indigenous three-wheeler electric
vehicles.
IIT Kharagpur has set up a joint PhD programme with the
University of Auckland, New Zealand.

Technology Clubs
Conforming to the vision of IIT Kharagpur to enable
students overall development holistically, opportunities are
afforded to students to excel in a plethora of extracurricular
activities. From sports to tech to social and cultural
activities, KGPians have excelled in all, notwithstanding the
rigorous academic schedule. Students indulge in music,
dramatics, debate, dance, case studies, b-plans, product
design, data analytics, and various sports and games.
Kharagpur Open Source Society (KOSS), CodeClub,
Business Club, Space Technology Student’s Society, and
Technology Robotix Society are among the plethora of
technology clubs on campus, where they do everything
from furthering open source culture and conquering
space to making robots and conducting Pan-India
robotics schools. Their proficiency ensures that IIT
Kharagpur stands out as a champion, even among IITs.
The culture of active participation in various inter-hall
events has helped our students prove their mettle in
various national and international competitions. These
activities are managed and organised by the students
themselves, which provides them with an excellent
platform to hone their managerial and leadership skills.

Our students have proved themselves several times by
securing podium finishes in competitions across the
world such as the Hult prize,the World Business Dialogue,
Harvard Programme for Asian and International relations,
Solvay Business Game, Global Business Challenge, Rice
B-plan Competition, Corporate Valuation & Financial
Modelling Competition-London and Brussels Management
Challenge.
Socio-Cultural Activities
Technology Students’ Gymkhana
The Gymkhana is the hub of all extra curricular activities
in IIT Kharagpur be it sports, socio-cultural or technology.
Gymkhana also looks after the students’ welfare and ensures
their well being on campus. It acts as a centre for the day to
day activities of the societies operating on campus. Regular
training and practice sessions take place to facilitate excellence
in the performance of the student teams at various inter-varsity
competitions across the globe including the Inter-IITs.

boasts of a vibrant socio-cultural
environment, where students develop, nurture and excel

IIT Kharagpur’s independent student media bodies namely
Awaaz and Scholars Avenue indulge in hardcore journalism
with activities like on-field reporting, special interviews,
internet blogging, writing op-eds, conducting opinion polls
and ensuring that campus politics is almost as interesting as
the country’s.
Students’ Alumni Cell
The Students’ Alumni Cell is a voluntary student body working under the aegis of
the Dean, Outreach. With the purpose of establishing and nurturing the interaction
between the Institute and its alumni, the organization hosts an extravagant reunion
for the Golden, Ruby, and Silver Jubilee batches every year. In addition to this, the cell
has some distinguished initiatives like the Leadership Summit and the Affinity and
Mentorship Programs. The organization is also a torchbearer in the Students’ Pan IIT
Alumni Relations Cell (SPARC).
Entrepreneurship Cell
Entrepreneurship Cell, IIT Kharagpur is one of India’s largest student run
entrepreneurship bodies, with a vision to promote entrepreneurship within and beyond
the campus. E-Cell conducts various global and pan-India initiatives throughout the
year, impacting over one lakh students, startups and other ecosystem stakeholders
directly. E-cell achieved a record number of participation and impact in all our flagship
initiatives: Global Entrepreneurship Summit, Local Startups Meet and Empresario,
despite being online. Last year alone, four campus startups raised seed money from
prominent angel investors and VCs and two got acquired.
International Relations Cell
International Relations Cell is a student body working under the aegis of the Office of
International Relations shouldered with the responsibility of improving the QS ranking
of IIT Kharagpur and promoting the institute on the international front. With this aim,
several initiatives like Foreign Training Program, Semester Away Program, Student
Exchange Program, Dyuti and the Global Hult Prize have been initiated with huge
success and collaboration with top universities like Brown and Stanford.
Branding and Relations Cell
Branding and Relations Cell is a student body that aims towards positioning IIT
Kharagpur as a global leader in the field of science and technology. Its most prominent
initiative is the Young Innovators Program, recognised by the President of India, which
is an international competition for high school students.

Kshitij
Kshitij, the annual techno-management symposium of IIT Kharagpur, celebrates the
spirit of science and technology and congregates students all over India to showcase
their scientific and managerial dexterity. It provides an assorted mix of a galaxy of events
with synchronised conduction of workshops, technical exhibitions, guest lectures and
more. The latest online edition of the fest saw massive participation from across India

Spring Fest
Spring Fest is the annual social and cultural fest of IIT Kharagpur. With a footfall of over
80,000, Spring Fest is one of the largest of its kind in Asia. What started in 1960 as an intercollege competition has now transformed into an ever-growing festival during its glorious
62-year journey, with the 62nd edition taking place virtually. The dedication and devotion of
the students result in a perfect blend of fun and frolic, of excitement and ecstasy, embedded

About Career Development Center
IIT Kharagpur has revamped its Training and
Placement (TnP) section to the Career Development
Centre (CDC), which provides 360-degree career
solutions to its students. CDC, through its various
activities, envisions ‘Creating Game Changer IIT
Kgpians’. It has been established with a mission to
‘Make every IITian a Career Oriented person instead
of a Job Oriented Person’. CDC views all recruiters
as partners in developing the careers of students
at IIT Kharagpur. It is continuously engaged in
building relationships with corporate sectors and
furthering industry collaboration. CDC, through its
orientation programs, aims to develop professional
ethics among the students. It facilitates students to
make decisions and pursue their careers in various
