ADVANCING TEACHERS DIGITAL LITERACY AND
DIGITAL COMPETENCE

This study conducted an advancement training workshop on digital
literacy and digital competence for teachers. A one-group pretest-posttest
quasi-experimental research design was utilized in the study. There were 30
selected teacher-participants involved in the study. The study was launched
at Bambad National High School, Division of Sultan Kudarat. Prior to the
actual conduct of the training, the development of needs assessments,
training design, validation research instruments, and pretest-posttest and tryout was made. A descriptive statistics and paired T-test at 0.05 level were used
in treating the data.
Based on the findings, the study revealed that the digital literacy level
of teachers before the training is “quite confident” while after the training is
“very confident”. The digital competence level of teachers before the training is
“competent” in all indicators while after the training is “highly competent”.
Thus, the training workshop advanced the teachers’ digital literacy and digital
competence.
The performance level on digital literacy and digital competence in the
majority of teachers before advancement training workshop is at “did not meet

expectation” level while after the training is at “satisfactory level”. Hence, the
teacher-participants
develop
the
fundamental
knowledge,
skills,
and
understanding of the topics in digital literacy and digital competence with little
guidance from the trainer and with some assistance from peers and can
transfer these understandings through authentic performance tasks. The
significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores in the training
workshop revealed that advancement training-workshop enhanced the
performance level of the teachers in digital literacy and digital competence.
