COURSE TITLE: HOME ECONOMICS AND BASIC AGRICULTURE 5 (ORNAMENTAL GARDENING) II. COURSE DESCRIPTION: Home Economics and Livelihood Education 5 prepares learner to acquire understanding and learn regarding personal hygiene and basic home management such as housekeeping and garbage segregation and disposal wherein they can acquire skills and knowledge on how to make their self neat and clean as well as their surroundings. Learners can also learn basic knowledge in taking good care of their clothes, especially when doing their laundry. They can also acquire skills from ornamental gardening wherein they can learn simple gardening or landscaping that they can apply on their respective homes. III. STANDARDS AND COMPETENCIES: A. FIRST TRIMESTER Unit 1: PERSONAL HYGIENE AND CARE ● Introductory to Adolescence ● Good Grooming and Proper Posture Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding and acquires basic skills in personal hygiene and care. Performance Standard: The learner is able to perform the basic skills in personal hygiene and care. SECOND TRIMESTER Unit 2: HOME MANAGEMENT ● Health and Safety Housekeeping (clothes care) ● Simple Home Repair Content Standard: The learner demonstrates the understanding of the simple basic stitches in clothes mending Performance Standard: The learner is able to perform and demonstrate the skills in doing basic stitches used in clothes mending. Competencies: The learner… 1. identifies the different kinds of simple stitches used in clothes mending; 2. explains the difference of a whip stitch from a slip stitch and their uses; 3. explains the difference of a blanket stitch from a ladder stitch and their uses; 4. performs the different kinds of simple stitches (whip stitch, slip stitch, blanket stitch, ladder stitch) in clothes mending; 5. Creates a project using the 4 kinds of stitches C. THIRD TRIMESTER Unit 3: BASIC HAND SEWING ● Basic Hand Stitches ● Simple Clothes Repair Content Standard: The learner demonstrates the understanding of attachments in clothes and common ways of caring for clothes. Performance Standard: The learner is able to demonstrate the basic skills on clothes attachments and common clothes care. Sewing Kit (3 pcs 2 1/2 inches hand sewing needle, 1black and 1white Thread, Pair of scissors, Seam Ripper (optional), Thimble, Needle Threader, Pin Cushion, Thread Snipper (optional),Pencil/fabric pen/fabric marker/tailor’s chalk, 1/2 meter Aida cloth(used in cross stitch) or any available cotton fabric) 2.
