Introduction
This proposal is to deliver British Academic Qualifications in Electrical and electronic
Engineering (with three options: Instrumentation and Control, Electronic Engineering and
Electrical-power) to meet Oil and Gas Industry requirements. The proposed programmes aim
to avoid the recent complications due to British Visa requirements and the high cost of studying
in the United Kingdom. The programme has been developed specifically for the Libya Oil and
Gas industry and is designed to enhance skills and competence required. The programme also
includes specific units relevant to the Oil and Gas Industry as well as English Language Modules
and Mathematics modules.

Academic Tutoring
Academic Tutoring is a successful tool informed by robust diagnostics and initial assessment of
students at the start of their programme. It is used for target setting, monitoring performance
and developing timely intervention strategies where appropriate. It is also used for individual
additional support.
English Language
High levels of English Language are highly important in order to be successful in the workplace
and for academic progression. The proposed offer will therefore include a significant English
language development programme throughout the L3, HNC and HND programmes.
Employability Skills
Employability Skills are vital to the success of students in the working environment. These
include the following:

Entry Requirements:







Be 18 years old as a minimum
An AVCE/GNVQ in an appropriate vocational area (e.g.: Business, Hospitality and
Catering, Travel and Tourism);
A GCE Advanced level profile which demonstrates strong performance in a relevant
subject or an adequate performance in more than one GCE subject. This profile is likely
to be supported by GCSE grades at A* to C; (Completed secondary education)
Other related Level 3 qualifications;
An Access to Higher Education Certificate awarded by an approved further education
institution;
Related work experience;
Mature learners may present a more varied profile of achievement that is likely to
include extensive work experience (paid and/or unpaid) and/or achievement of a range
of professional qualifications in their work sector.
English Language Requirement
Students are expected to be able to demonstrate English language comprehension at a level
equivalent to IELTS (International English Language Testing System) 4.5 to be able to study BTEC
Higher Nationals.
The expectation of IELTS 4.5 (Reading and Writing must be at 5.0) applies to all students
recruited to BTEC level 4 and level 5 qualifications. The college is required to satisfy itself of the
fact that the students have been recruited with integrity and that they will be able to cope with
the rigour of the programme.
All students seeking admission (including EU and Overseas) are asked to provide/undertake one
of the following:
 Evidence that their command of spoken and written English is at IELTS 4.5 (or
equivalent) adequate for the programme of study for which they have applied. The
expectation can also be met using other English language tests such as Pearson PTE,
NCFE, City & Guilds, Cambridge and ESOL etc.

Progression Pathway for HNC and HND in Electrical and Electronic Engineering
HNC and HND programmes in Electrical and Electronic Engineering will provide students with
the opportunity to gain an internationally recognised qualification accredited by Pearson.
Pearson is a leading awarding organisation offering a suite of BTEC qualifications in over 70
countries worldwide. Pearson have built up a reputation as a provider of modern education
solutions that help students from all walks of life realise their full potential.
HNC students will gain level 4-subject specific qualification, which is 120 credits. Students with
HNC in Electrical and Electronic Engineering can study further 120 credits to gain a level 5 HND.
An HND combined with IELTs 5.5 will allow progression onto a BSc, or BEng in in Electrical and
Electronic Engineering.
A key benefit of the proposed offer is that there are exit opportunities at the end of each of the
programme. Students can leave the programme at the end of each programme HNC and HND
with an internationally recognised and UK accredited qualification. Students can also join HNC
or HND programme directly.
Academic staff delivering the Technical Training Programme for the Oil and Gas Industry are
UK/USA graduates and experts in their specialist fields.
