1. Air pollution
a. How does this issue affect health in your community?
Some kids develop asthma and/or lung diseases due to the air pollution close to the
refineries in South Houston.
b. What is the controversy or debate surrounding this social health concern?
Refineries are polluting Houston’s air by not following guidelines given to them.
Lack of law enforcement has contributed to sick individuals who live close to these
places.
c. What are your opinions about this social health issue?
I think the government should enforce regulations on refineries; so kids do not get sick
2. Wealth gap
a. How does this issue affect health in your community?
Rich people have access to better treatments and medicines than poor people
b. What is the controversy or debate surrounding this social health concern?
Everyone should have access to medical care regardless of their income level.
c. What are your opinions about this social health issue?
I think everyone should have access to medicine and/or medical care.
3. Homelessness
a. How does this issue affect health in your community?
In the area when I live there are not many homeless; however, in Houston we may
find a few that could possibly have mental health issues and/or drug addictions.
b. What is the controversy or debate surrounding this social health concern?
They do not have the resources to obtain the medical and or mental care that they
need to become part of a healthy society.
c. What are your opinions about this social health issue?
I have mixed opinions on them. Sometimes I think they are homeless due to bad
decisions they made; however, there are some homeless veterans with mental issues
that need access to mental care

4. Organ donation
a. How does this issue affect health in your community?
The number of organ donors is relatively low compare to the need of these
organs.
b. What is the controversy or debate surrounding this social health concern?
Some people with particular religious beliefs do not want to donate their
organs. Also, some people think that doctors will let them die just to
donate their organs.
c. What are your opinions about this social health issue?
I think everyone should be a donor.
5. Refugees
a. How does this issue affect health in your community?
Some refugees bring diseases from their countries.
b. What is the controversy or debate surrounding this social health concern?
Refugees will get Americans sick because they carry diseases that are no
longer here and they may emerge again.
c. What are your opinions about this social health issue?
Refugees should be tested before they get allowed inside the United States
to avoid bringing unwanted diseases to the country
