Black Knight, The Legendary Courier of Kim Woo-Bin Review and Synopsis of the Korean Drama "Black Knight" (2023) – Netflix Just finished another one of Netflix's best series, and it's my Korean drama recommendation for May 2023. I'm so excited because I got to watch the amazing acting of Mr. Woo-Bin after his battle with nasopharyngeal cancer back in 2017. Since his illness, Mr. Woo-Bin completely disappeared from the entertainment world and focused solely on his treatment. But let me tell you, after his recovery, Mr. Woo-Bin has made a comeback in the drama "Our Blues" as Park Jeong-Jun, a character who portrays a fisherman living on Jeju Island, and in the film "Alienoid" as Guard/Thunder. How's his acting, you ask? No doubt about it... With his handsome face and deep voice, in my opinion, Mr. Woo-Bin is looking cooler than ever, you know~ Still can't believe how amazing he's become? Oh my... You really need to watch the Netflix series recommendation I'm about to discuss, don't you? Come on, let's dive into the review and synopsis of the latest Korean drama on Netflix titled "Black Knight." Let's get it~ Black Knight (2023) – Netflix Title: Black Knight (Taekbaegisa/ 택배기사) Director: Cho Ui-Seok Webcomic Writer: Lee Yoon-Kyun Main Cast of the Drama Black Knight (2023): Kim Woo-Bin as Knight 5-8 Song Seung-Heon as Ryu Seok Kang You-Seok as Yoon Sa-Wol/ Knight 5-7 Esom as Jung Seol-Ah Supporting Cast of the Drama Black Knight (2023): Kim Eui-Sung as Grandpa Lee Joo-Seung as Useless Jeong Eun-Seong as Dummy Lee Sang-Jin as Dumb-Dumb Lee Sung-Wook as Director Oh Ji-Hwan Nam Kyung-Eup as Chairman Ryu Jae-Jin Genre: Action, Adventure, Drama, Sci-Fi Network: Netflix Episodes: 6 Release Date: May 12, 2023 A meteorite collided with Earth 40 years ago, and since then, some continents have sunk. The Korean Peninsula has turned into a desert. Only one percent of the population survived. They need new discoveries and order to survive. To combat the polluted air, a massive Air Core is created to convert oxynium into oxygen. Human resources are scarce. Using QR codes, the survivors are categorized as General Survivors, Special Survivors, and Core Survivors. GENERAL DISTRICT, SPECIAL DISTRICT, CORE DISTRICT. However, the unselected survivors are called refugees and live in misery. They suffer from oxygen shortage and hunger. Some refugees become hunters and looters out of frustration from discrimination. Couriers distribute oxygen and supplies to ensure the survival of the survivors. They have to arrive on time, navigating through polluted deserts, sand, and fending off attacks from hunters. Couriers must be tough. They risk their lives with hunters to defend their logistic trucks. So, everyone wants to become a courier. Especially for the refugees without QR codes, becoming a courier is their only hope. Yeah, this one's got quite the lengthy setup, folks! So here's the deal: Korea is going through a dystopian phase due to a shortage of oxygen. It's a real crisis, and people are desperate to get their hands on some fresh air. Enter Cheonmyeong, this mega corporation that's like the go-to oxygen supplier in town. But get this, Cheonmyeong Group isn't just in the oxygen business. They're also the only developers who've divided South Korea into three distinct districts: the General District, the Special District, and the rest, well, that's the Refugee District. Now, what sets these three districts apart, you ask? Three District Division The district division is based on social status, folks. If you're rich, hold important positions and have influence in the government, of course, you'll be in the special district. The rest of us regular working folks, you know, corporate slaves and all that, well, we end up in the general district. As for those whose income is below the minimum wage, they end up in the refugee district. The problem is, the refugee district really struggles to get oxygen supply. Not only is it expensive, but the oxygen deliveries to this district are also scarce because it's a high-crime area. There are a lot of hunters, that's what they call the refugees who loot the couriers carrying oxygen supplies. It's pretty scary, you know, getting mugged like that. The Refugee District So, how do these refugees manage to survive, you ask? Well, one of the reasons is thanks to the help of a courier named Knight 5-8 (Kim Woo-Bin), or as they affectionately call him, 5-오 (o) - 8-팔 (pal) = o-dasippal. Brother Knight 5-8 is a kind-hearted soul who distributes oxygen to various points in the refugee district. He doesn't want to be recognized, so he does it all undercover, you know? But word gets out about his secret acts of kindness, and some young folks catch wind of it, idolizing Brother Knight 5-8 and dreaming of becoming compassionate couriers themselves. This young gang consists of four individuals: Yoon Sa-Wol (Kang You-Seok), Useless, Dummy, and Dumb-Dumb. They try to figure out how to become courier brothers with the privilege of having a QR code embedded like a tattoo on their hands, granting them access to the general district. Once they enter the general district, they automatically get some sort of official housing, which is, of course, way better in terms of oxygen supply, air cleanliness, and other facilities. Do these four young souls succeed in fulfilling their aspirations of becoming courier brothers too? The Problematic Cheonmyeong Group The Cheonmyeong Group is the only company that monopolizes all kinds of businesses in Korea right now. That's why their CEO, Mr. Ryu Seok (Song Seung-Heon), feels arrogant and full of himself. He believes that the oxygen they produce will be wasted as long as there are refugee districts, which he considers completely useless. So, he has this SUPER EVIL mission to eradicate these refugee districts in the most cruel way possible. From bombing them to giving vaccines that turn out to be poison, causing the population to die within two days of vaccination. How cruel is that? Song Seung-Heon plays the villain in the drama Black Knight, portraying Mr. Ryu Seok, the owner of Cheonmyeong Group. To stop the evil deeds of Mr. Ryu Seok, Brother Black Knight plans a coup. It seems like even the government is supporting the Cheonmyeong Group. But here's the twist: the Cheonmyeong Group is actually divided into two factions. There's the original owner, Mr. Ryu Seok's father, who has noble intentions, and then there's Mr. Ryu Seok himself, who lacks any sense of morals! So, what's the ending of the Korean drama Black Knight? Can they successfully thwart Mr. Ryu Seok's wicked plans? Impressions of Watching Drama Black Knight In the first three episodes, I was super confused about the issues presented in the Black Knight drama. But as time went on, it got more interesting and I started to enjoy the continuous flow. There's a little flashback, turns out the mass murder in the refugee district isn't the first time it has happened. Mr. Ryu Seok's father had done the same thing before in order to achieve his goal of building a district called AIR CORE. The plan was for AIR CORE to be occupied only by the privileged 1% who would receive proper oxygen supply without any struggle, thanks to Cheonmyeong Group's production. No need to fight for it because it's exclusively reserved for the selected few. It reminds me of how this mother character failed to become the president in the drama Queenmaker, but successfully became the president in the drama Black Knight What's shocking is that the young character named Yoon Sa-Wol (Kang You-Seok) here plays a mutant. It adds more complexity because he becomes highly valuable to Mr. Ryu Seok, who secretly has an unknown illness. There hasn't been any cure for his condition so far. Since finding Yoon Sa-Wol and accepting him as Knight 5-7, Mr. Ryu Seok feels alive again. A new hope arises in his life because he believes he can exploit Yoon Sa-Wol, whose true identity is that of a mutant. He grew up in the oxyanium mining area, exposed to radiation even before birth. What's the result? The result is that Yoon Sa-Wol becomes an INCREDIBLE KID who is incredibly strong. He cannot be defeated, bullets have no effect on him, and he has incredibly fast healing abilities. So, the big question arises because in the end of the Black Knight drama, Mr. Ryu Seok had already received a blood transfusion from Yoon Sa-Wol. Even though the factory exploded, I suspect this wicked man is still alive, euuii~ Usually, villains tend to have a long lifespan, you know. Mr. Ryu Seok is ridiculously ambitious! I'm optimistic about having a season 2 of Black Knight! Well, it seems to be a typical Netflix drama, right? They never stop at just one season. What do you think, folks? Korean Drama Black Knight (2023) - Netflix Trailer Trailer For my dear friend who absolutely loves action, adventure, and sci-fi dramas, I'm confident that you won't be disappointed with this Netflix series. The acting is superb, and the setting is extraordinary. It truly feels like a seriously dystopian Korea... Even the beautiful Namsan Tower is seen collapsing amidst a barren desert, devoid of any love for life. Come on, let's watch Black Knight on Netflix, with 6 episodes, each lasting 50 minutes. Enjoy the show! 즐거운 하루 보내세요~ Have a nice day.
