POTENTIAL ORDER OF STUFF
Day 1 (May 27)
1. Keflavik (Airport)
2. Raufarhólshellir Caves - Costs $95. Are we doing this?
3. Kerid Volcanic Crater (The Kerið Crater is located on private property. ... You can walk
around the crater and go to the lake at the bottom of Kerið crater. You can then also
walk along the volcanic crater lake. A visit to Kerið should take about 1 hour if you want
to do all of the above).?
4. Stop at Larsenstræti 5, Selfoss, Iceland to grab basic groceries? (It's called Bonus
supermarket). There's a bunch of other food places and markets in that area too. It is
open at 10am.
5. Gas Stop? - PQX8+RFM, Þjóðvegur
6. Gljúfrafoss falls/Seljalandsfoss falls (Right next to each other? - 2 hrs 15 min from
airport or 1 hr 17 min from Raufarholshellir if we go… OR 1hr 50 min from Volcano if we
go….Seljalandsfoss - Gljufrafoss Waterfalls is a 1.2 mile moderately trafficked loop trail
located near Þórsmerkurvegur, Southern, Iceland that features a waterfall and is good
for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from April
until October.
7. Stakkholtsgja Canyon??? 1.5 hr hike ish??? So cool. GOT filmed here!
8. Rutshellir Caves/Drangurinn (21 min from Falls above - The cave is easily accessible.
Park at the old community centre building at Skarðshlíð, then walk west to the cave.
Either climb over the fence, or go through the gate. Take care to close the gate after
you, to keep the farm animals in).
9. Seljavallalaug pool (Can’t find driving path to this, but close to caves above ish)
(To reach Seljavallalaug from Reykjavík, drive east along the Ring Road that encircles
the country for just over an hour and a half, before turning onto Route 242 for the car
park. The pool is situated a short hike north about 20 min).
10. Skógafoss Falls/Kvernufoss Falls (5 min drive from Rutshellir Caves - This hike starts
at Skógafoss, one of Iceland's most famous waterfalls. It's easy to visit. Simply park in
the large parking lot and it's a short walk to the waterfall. PRO TRAVEL TIP: This is a
very busy spot almost all day long). For the second falls, park at museum then hike 20
min. This is basically same area as skogafoss falls.
11. Dinner? Theres a bistro right next to the falls that looks cool. Or we eat groceries?
12. South Iceland Guest House (10 min West from Skogafoss Falls - Check in is at
restaurant across the road).
Day 2 (May 28)
1. Black sand beach/Dyrhólaey Viewpoint/Hálsanefshellir cave/Rejnisfjara columns
(Reynisfjara - 38 min from Hostel….From road number 1 (Ring Road), turn off onto
paved road number 215 that will take you to the parking lot. Parking at Reynisfjara
Beach is free of charge)...FOR THE dyrhólaey VIEWPOINT When driving on the main
road #1 or ring road direction east you take a turn to the right to road 218. Drive that
road to an end but please note you have two options i.e. either drive it all the way or
make a right turn up the hill. That is because Dyrhólaey is divided into two parts i.e. the
higher and lower part.
2. Gas food stop? Gas right by the beach and a cool food truck on a school bus called
Skool beans.
3. Gigjagja cave (Also known as yodas cave)
4. Mossy lava fields - Walk along the Scenic green lava walk trail. Google says we will
actually drive through the lava field park so we might not even have to find the official
trail.
5. Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon (About an hour from the beach. Very short and easy walk from
parking. About 10 minutes. once there, 30 minutes is enough to get the general idea of
the canyon).
6. Stjórnarfoss Falls
7. Foss a Sidu Waterfall (Right next to Dverghamrar. Youll see this falls from ring road 1.
There is no official parking, but its close to the road that you can stop and take photos).
8. Dverghamrar, Iceland (0.5 k hike)
9. Svartifoss falls (About an hour drive from the canyon above or 50 min from
Dverghamrar…How long is the Svartifoss hike? The hike to Svartifoss, starting from the
Visitor Centre in Skaftafell, is about 1.5 kilometres or 45 minutes (one way). On the way to
Svartifoss you come across three other waterfalls; Þjofafoss (Thieves' Fall), Hundafoss
(Dogs' Fall) and Magnusarfoss (the Falls of Magnus).

https://icelandtravelguide.is/locations/mulagljufur-canyon-waterfalls/

be a few hours but you can apparently see some icebergs from your car if you park).

Day 3 (May 29)
1. Vestrahorn Mountain/Viking Village (1 hr 11 min from Diamond beach or TBD
hostel.Vestrahorn is located on the south east coast of Iceland, near the town of Höfn.
Coming from the Ring Road, drive east past Höfn and there will be an unmarked gravel
road on the right after about 7km, just before the tunnel. Follow that road for about 5km
and you will reach the breathtaking peaks of Vestrahorn )
2. Hvalnes Nature Reserve Beach, Iceland
3. Fauskasandur, Iceland. (52 min from vestrahorn)
4. Djupavogskorin hot spring (35 min from above. Looks like its free and easy to get to?)
