Start your letter ‘Dear Editor’ and remember to supply an appropriate ending. Dear Editor, This letter addresses a recent traffic incident between a careless car driver and a cyclist on Main Shahrah e Faisal road at around 5pm yesterday, 20th April 2023. To begin with, I was walking along the footpath opposite the Habitt city outlet, observing the immense overflow of cars racing with each other, switching the lanes too often and disrupting the traffic flow. This traffic included a sport cyclist cycling along in one lane at a constant speed of about 13 km/h. A black Honda civic 2018 car was pacing with a speed of about 60km/h while overtaking another car and entered the lane in which the cyclist was cycling. The car driver was an adolescent nineteen year old who nearly caused a severe muscle injury of the cyclist with his ignorance and overspeeding. His swift pace was uncontrollable and almost toppled down an innocent cyclist.139 This situation is absolutely unsettling and has perturbed me and many other pedestrians and vehicle owners. Especially cyclists. Car drivers need to have utmost integrity and respect for cyclists just like others as law abiding citizens. I suggest to pass an order by the Karachi East District to maintain a separate line for bikers and cyclists only, similar to the ones in Amsterdam Netherlands and Germany. Any vehicle attempting to enter the lane will pay a hefty fine equivalent to two hundred Euros. 222 Furthermore, attaching front and back lights for cyclists must be a necessity to avoid accidents and night and manually answering phone calls while riding should be illegal. However wearing Bluetooth headsets to answer the calls would be permitted. These are the minor safety precautions adopted by the West that has favoured both the cyclists and car owners, as well as encouraged citizens to use bicycles as their mode of transport. I hope this issue reaches the concerned authority and immediate action is taken to prevent further calamities. Yours Sincerely, Emaan Faiz TASK 5: Narrative Writing Write a story which includes the words, ‘Two years after they last saw each other, she was amazed at how confident he seemed.’ The flashy lights were beaming at Joe like a car’s headlight, the chit chatter of the paparazzi were like buzzing bees, not to mention the synchronized chant of the audience desperately awaiting his appearance for a photograph. Joe however remained in his nonchalant and composed element, delivering a candid yet motivating speech. Something a young blonde, blue eyed lady called Taylor was admiring from afar, with a beautiful smile of satisfaction. Two years after they last saw each other, she was amazed at how confident he seemed. Who was she? A friend? A partner? Joe excuses the audience and the abundance of interviewers and walks towards Taylor. Our story starts with chaos. Literally. Already late for his second visa interview for Denmark, Joe sped along the ever so long maze of the Denmark embassy, his shiny black leather doc Marten shoes clomping down the gravely old wooden floor and his brand new black blazer swooshing with the wind in perfect harmony. Ufffffff! Joe takes a deep breath, trying to inhale the pessimistic thoughts that woke him up the last three nights consecutively and the complementary nervousness and anxiety that comes before doing an important task, in his case, entering the visa interviewer’s office. “Good morning Mr. Joe Alwyn. I see you are fifteen minutes late but luckily we can still conduct your interview as you are the only one today” “I am Miss Taylor Swift your interviewer. Are you ready? Shall I order you some coffee?” A gravely silent “Hmm” was heard. Almost compatible with a humming bird. That Visa interview was the shortest in history. A mere twenty minute long session of no eye contact, trembling in fear with cold sweat, the untouched coffee that had gone ice cold and the continuous tapping of the feet, gave Taylor an impression that Joe lacked confidence and was discomforted by the interview. 293 Taylor was standing on a fence. Should she sympathize with Joe and approve his visa despite his apparent nervousness that could land her in hot waters with the Department heads or adhere to her duty and reject his visa? She was well aware that a candidate’s under confident behavior is a sign of danger. Taylor knew she was sailing close to the wind. With a heavy heart she picked up the giant, dusty, bright red stamp with ‘rejected’ embossed on it and stamped it on Joe’s documents. She mustered up the courage to console the dejected Joe. Something that could bring her trouble. “Joe. I can understand what you are going through right now. Your documents are all in order and I am sure you have a bright future that awaits you. Don’t give up.” “I’m always here to assist you.” Head shook in despair, Joe exited the office with the slowest speed in comparison to the one he had while entering the office. Cut to two years later, there was Joe. His head high in pride as he receives his honorary citizen award from the Denmark Embassy for his remarkable efforts in housing more than a million Ukrainian refugees in Denmark. How he gathered up that confidence is still a secret he is unwilling to share with Taylor. Although he has asked her out for coffee to make up for the one that had gone cold! WC= 516
