Name: Abegail G. Castro Grade and Section: 12-St.Boniface Date: February 18, 2019 Day and Time: 1:45-2:45 PM & 3:00-6:00 PM (TUESDAY) Subject: BES Teacher: Mr. Ralfh Julius T. Delator MY SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL JOURNEY AS AN ABM STUDENT Journeys are about learning and growth, and they have the potential to teach people about themselves and the society in which they live (Sheriff, 2018). My journey as an ABM student has been a series of joy, regular days, and dramas. There has been countless sleepless nights, breakdowns, disappointments, and misunderstandings. Basically, my journey as an ABM student challenged my own self. It challenged my patience onto understanding more the complexity of situations that I am surrounded with, maintaining my attitude upon dealing with colleagues during groupworks, and most especially my respect for my own potentials and limitations but the will to transcend on things are what I am not setasiding . I have encountered all of these challenges but what motivates me to still delve onto such difficult situations are the most relevant and substantial lessons acquired that could help me achieve actual growth and maturity and become a better citizen of the society embodying values from the certain experiences which I usually call as burdens but instead a great teacher of true living. Some memorable performance tasks that enabled me to experience such includes the Organization and Management Seminar, which taught me the significance of preparation. This particular intensive preparation allows every group to present the flow of every programs properly and in return earned great feedbacks from our teacher. Another, is the JAG Week 2018 which helped me realize the importance of collaboration as well as acceptance. Because of St. Boniface’s spirit of teamwork, we earned majority of the awards including the best tagline, has the highest garnered sales (main campus), best booth in selling activity, and others. The final result though gave us a bit of disappointment but eventually, acceptance was acquired with the knowledge that we might have done everything we can but still lacked in a certain aspect, which has the highest reflected score in the final grading of results. The making of the Business Plan sets an unforgettable experience yet the best challenging among the rest. The business plan basically entails a lot of aspect which requires intrinsic evaluation and discussion of a group. The contents within the aspects is a process, thus, the significance of firm decision-making onto what statements and figures included should be strongly considered. This is very important so that every data coincides with each other until the very end of the making of the business plan. This also allowed us to learn to stand on our own sometimes when the person who usually guides us is not around. These PTs developed me as a person in terms of dealing with people that I am embedded to, helped me realize the significance of the principle of participation allowing complex problem easier to solve, to go beyond my limitations and not to stop learning which includes the courage to ask questions or do researches when necessary, for me to be openminded of the suggestions thrown for it can help me acquire more knowledge that I can probably use in real life situations, and most importantly, communication. There is nothing more important way in resolving problems within the group than effectively utilizing communication. Attitude is also important to make teamwork, productivity, and efficiency happen. Within a group there should be a firm leader in order to guide and manage a particular team with its discipline and organization. During the ABM selling activity, there was an absence of a proper management of the group by the leader due to the leader’s rude attitude to the members. This brought a problem to the proper planning about the selling activity to the group since there was no proper communication at all due to the misunderstanding between the leader and its members which eventually affect the whole. But for the betterment of all, there was someone who stepped up and raised the concern to the leader regarding the matter of dealing with her attitude and as Josenians, interiority and forgiveness is never difficult to acquire as long as openness and exchange of thoughts is there. All of these performance tasks were not an easy job, but the most important thing is that I’ve learned a lot of values from it. I also learned that these particular tasks were not given to merely comply the academic requirements and to be a burden for the students but instead it prepares us for another step to take into, college, which is more complicated in reality. It also enable us individuals to dig deeper onto our potentials and attitudes while achieving excellence, as what the institution aim for their people. Another thing is acceptance of defeat. The reality is, victory doesn’t really happen all the time for the same person or group. It is hard to accept defeat when you’ve tried hard so much and invested too much time and effort on a certain work. But I have truly learned that when defeat comes, accept it as a signal that your plans are not sound, rebuild those plans, and set sail once more toward your coveted goal. Defeat should never be a source of discouragement but rather a fresh stimulus. Defeat is not the worst of failures, not to have tried is the failure. With all of these experiences, I’ve come to establish my own strengths and this include the Financial Aspect. In relevance to my strand, ABM-Accountancy 1, I believe I already met the competencies required about the financial aspect highlighting the works of financial statements, having trained by competent FABM1 and FABM2 teachers. Intensive training was conducted regarding the debit and credit of a particular account, the crafting of notes, the Statement of Comprehensive Income, Statement of Changes in Owner’s Equity, Statement of Cash Flows, and the Statement of Financial Position, most especially analyzing critically financial problems and transactions, and such. But with every dominance, there comes the weaknesses of mine which involves the lack of leadership skills and the lack of confidence in public speaking. Until now, reinforcement of these frailty of mine is what keeps me going in order to translate my weakness into a strength which would help me identify another weakness and become a stronger person when time comes in facing them in the near future. Ten years from now, I would probably still be in USJ-R and now Ms. Abegail G. Castro, CPA, taking a degree in Law, still inculcating and applying the mantra of not to stop learning ‘til I can do so. I am probably be still making progress of myself, ready to absorb additional wisdom as well the experiences, which is the greatest teacher of all. With all of these jobs I’m doing, I will not forget to tell myself to embody balance and embodying means being able to translate learnings into actions, application of what I’ve learned. With this embodiment of balance, I will tell myself as well to prioritize rest for I have already done well and deserve to give time for myself at last. REFERENCE: Sheriff, R. C. (2018).
