In this 21st centuary, different aspects have forced us in one way or another to venture into online courses. This essay will explain the personal experience of studying on a self-paced online course, that is the reflection of the insights gained and the challenges faced. Education is the process of Much as education needs social interaction, Moore, 1989 argues that social interactions in class mainly include student–instructor interaction and student–student interaction. This interaction is very vital in the education process. During my first self-paced online course, I have come to realise that, this method of learning provides students with the ability to do other things in their own scheduled time. Despite being students, we are in one way or another engaged in other activities that require us to attend physically at a given time. Self-paced online course has helped with the ability to attend to other issues without affecting the time of study. The online courses on the other hand is affected by different challenges that if not careful can affect the learning process. The technical challenges affects the self-paced online courses. Learning in a country where there is mostly electricity black out affects the actual individual planning. I have for some time missed my planned time of study due to loss of electricity power, this affects other activities planned and thereby oppose the whole purpose of self paced learning. Not only that, poor planning also leads to procrastination. During my study I have realized that in self paced online course you may fail to meet the deadline for submission of assignments.
