JOB TITLE: Dakota Stage Ltd - Executive Director September 2022 MISSION STATEMENT The mission of Dakota Stage is to contribute to the cultural development of our community by creating high quality, live theatre productions that enrich, educate and entertain both audiences and participants. As a community-based theater, we constantly strive to provide a nurturing environment for participants of all ages and cultures to develop artistic and technical skills while promoting live theatre as an avenue for entertainment within our community. ACCOUNTABILITY The Executive Director reports to the Dakota Stage Board of Directors. AUTHORITY Our Executive Director has the following direct authority over Dakota Stage: Administrative authority over the day to day operations Management of the staff and facility, and all events and engagements thereof Full budget compliance as approved by the Board of Directors. Responsible for operational functions, fiscal health and the public profile of the organization Major decisions will be approved by the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors may override other decisions determined to be in conflict with the mission requirements JOB SUMMARY The Executive Director plans, implements and oversees all administrative operations of Dakota Stage, Ltd. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Main Stage and Shade Tree Players a. Collaborate with the Board and its committees to create, implement and promote a wide variety of programming in order to meet with our Mission b. Adhere to budgetary and procedural guidelines c. Recruit, coordinate and manage volunteers, artists and audiences for all productions and other events d. Maintain outstanding relationships with local media, and actively promote all shows and events e. Create social media campaigns to generate programming interest and maintain a visible web presence f. Communicate in a timely manner with audiences, artists, committees, and others. g. Respond to and resolve HR and PR issues, escalating as needed to the Board of Directors h. Manage administrative duties of the season including, but not limited to, promotional materials, parties, member benefits, registrations, payments, meetings, facility needs, etc. i. Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors j. In the absence of an Artistic Director and/or Technical Director, manage or delegate all aspects of their job duties and responsibilities over productions and the facility k. Maintain a physical presence at the theater as required to engage with community members, potential audience members, sponsors, and others doing business with Dakota Stage 2. Special Projects a. Create, schedule and oversee profitable special programming to ensure continued extra income b. Facilitate space rental and program relationships for additional income and promotional opportunities c. Participate actively in community events, and engage with related organizations and business managers to promote sponsorship and other partnership opportunities d. Collaborate with committees to promote new and existing programming throughout the year e. Supervise and delegate logistics of all fundraising and special events f. Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors 3. Administrative a. Plan, manage and execute all daily administrative and operational tasks of the organization b. Work closely with the bookkeeper and accountants to ensure timely bill pay and depositing, excellent record keeping, thorough reporting, budgetary planning and compliance and an overall healthy financial profile c. Write grants, solicit sponsorships, sell advertisements, promote season ticket sales, and otherwise engage in active fundraising for the organization d. Communicate promptly and appropriately with Board members, vendors, and staff e. Delegate and supervise staff to ensure effective functioning and maintenance of all spaces and properties f. Represent the theater and maintain a positive public image within the community. g. Work closely with the Board of Directors on continued strategic planning of the organization h. Ensure compliance with all organizational policies by themselves, volunteers, and staff SKILLS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS a. Bachelor’s degree in Theater, Business, or other related field, or related experience b. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing c. Excellent organizational and administrative skills d. Exceptional time management skills and attention to detail e. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team f. Maintain above average standards of ethics and conduct in job related activities g. Practical knowledge of theatre operations and a firm commitment to activities and productions WORKING CONDITIONS Flexible scheduling Evening and weekend work required TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT Full time Starting annual salary for the Executive Director is commensurate with experience Commission and additional stipends may be available through grants and programs Thirty (30) days notice prior to termination of employment
