Body Pain
When you have localized body
pain, what do you do?
Basic Massage
Pressure Areas
Objectives:
1. Identify the right massage pressure
areas,
2. Realize the importance of knowing the
right massage pressure areas in
performing wellness massage to client,
3. Perform wellness massage techniques by
pressing the right pressure points.
Massage Pressure Areas/ Points
 are spots located all over our body which can be a nerve
cluster, sensitive areas of muscles, tendons, ligaments, blood
vessels, and veins that are sensitive to pressure.
 According to Baran, pressure points are specific areas of the
body that run along meridians or channels through which the
energy in our body flows.
 These areas correlate with specific points where blocking of the
meridians is common, resulting in pain and discomfort in the
body.
 By servicing pressure points, Baran says we can unblock the
meridians, regulating the flow of energy and releasing
endorphins and other natural pain-relieving “qi” to the affected
areas of the body.
The Meridian System
It is also called channel
network, is a concept in
traditional Chinese medicine
(TCM).
Meridians are paths through
which the life-energy known as
"qi" (ch'i) flows
The 12 standard meridians, also
called Principal Meridians, are
divided into Yin and Yang
groups.
The Meridian System
The Yin meridians of the arm
are the Lung, Heart, and
Pericardium.
The Yang meridians of the arm
are the Large Intestine, Small
Intestine, and Triple Burner.
The Yin Meridians of the leg are
the Spleen, Kidney, and Liver.
The Yang meridians of the leg
are Stomach, Bladder, and Gall
Bladder
Massage Pressure
Areas/ Points
 Acupressure has its foundation in
traditional Chinese medicine (TCM),
where it has been in use for over
2,000 years.
 It’s a method of activating the
body’s self-healing mechanisms to
treat illness and alleviate pain.
 Like acupuncture, which uses tiny
needles, acupressure stimulates the
body at certain meridians, or
pressure points.

Remember….
Pressure points are specific areas of the
body that run along meridians or
channels through which the energy in
our body flows and where blocking of
the meridians is common, that will result
in pain and discomfort in the body.
The body has lines of energy that end in
specific zones in your hand and foot.
