Personal Comment „Coronavirus“ Pros Cons Nature heals People dying A short „break“ from everything Economical impact People realizing that home office is a valid option Loneliness Coronavirus Everyone talks about it, everyone is affected by it – Coronavirus. The Coronavirus is one of the worst pandemics humanity has encountered, and we‘re struggling to deal with it, even in these modern times. In general, we can all agree, Coronavirus is awful. But are there really only negative sides to it, or are there some positives that Coronavirus brings? The probably best thing to come out of Coronavirus is the environmental impact it brings. Because there are restrictions as to which places can stay open during this pandemic, there are a lot less climate-damaging gases that are being emitted. There‘s less people driving around with cars, and certain productions are on a standstill while this pandemic is going on. This leads to our nature finally having time to heal again. China‘s air pollution decreased and there are actually swans returning to venice again, and these are just a few examples. There‘s no doubt that Coronavirus actually helps the planet heal again. If you are big on conspiracy theories, you might even say that the Coronavirus was a defense mechanism of our mother earth. Another positive side to Corona is the break it provided for most people. Sometimes it feels bad to think about it like that, since Corona in general is obviously a terrible thing, but I think it‘s safe to say that there are people who needed a little „break“ from everything. Sometimes, when working or studying everyday, life can get overwhelming. Coronavirus made it so that almost all people (except essential workers) could finally get that little break that they have been craving for. Even though things are slowly starting to turn back to normal in a lot of countries, there‘s a lot of people who enjoyed the amount of free time that they had, so they could finally de-stress, or even start doing hobbies that they didn‘t have the time for before, discovering themselves – there‘s a lot of good things that come out of having more free time. While things are slowly turning back to normal in a lot of countries, there‘s still a lot of jobs that haven‘t returned to their usual routine. A lot of companies were forced to start doing home office, which might actually be a positive thing. There‘s people who might be more productive when working from home. You can generally sleep longer and you are in your own comfortable space. To some people, home office might be the more preferable way to work, even though there are obvious downsides to it as well (especially if you have little kids..), but I think this pandemic made people realize that home office could be a valid option even after this pandemic ends, which I think is a cool thing. But now to the disadvantages of Coronavirus. With all of these restrictions regarding contact with other people, it can start to get real lonely. A lot of people haven‘t seen their friends or family in months. It gets really tough, especially if you live by yourself. This loneliness just makes you feel sad sometimes, and makes you wish that things could just turn back to normal. Being sad definitely also affects your productiveness, which kind of leads to my next point. The economical impact of Coronavirus is unsurprisingly pretty bad. A lot of places just aren‘t allowed to be open at all, even though (depending on the country you live in) places like restaurants are slowly beginning to open again with certain restrictions. But there‘s just a lot of stuff that drags the economy down right now – places having a lot less revenue due to being closed for a while and less people visiting them, and also general productiveness of people. Even though some people might be more productive doing home office, there‘s a lot of people who aren‘t, and as I pointed out before, more people are just more unproductive in general. The economical impact isn‘t just bad for our government though, it‘s especially tough for people in self employment. They had to spent a lot of saved up money to make up for the period where they didn‘t make any revenue, and most places like restaurants or even barbers are probably still making a lot less, since people are just scared to visit them, even if they started opening again with certain restrictions. This is obviously a pretty bad thing and will take a while to recover from. Well, the last and most obvious negative thing about Corona are all the people who are dying from it. People who are losing their loved ones, without even being able to see them one last time. This virus is cruel and I pray for all the people who lost one of their loved ones during this pandemic. There‘s a total of 360 thousand people who have died of Coronavirus. I hope we can all recover from this in some way, even though there‘s damage that is irreparable. In conclusion, Coronavirus is obviously a terrible thing, and one of the worst pandemics humanity has ever had to overcome. There are a lot of people that die of Coronavirus every day and there‘s even more downsides to it. But it‘s important that you don‘t forget that there are positive things to it as well, even though it might feel bad to think about it like that. Stay safe and practice social distancing as much as possible, and let‘s try to overcome this thing together.
