Introduction
This research and information on this project is about the different aspects of computer software,
or simply software, works individually and how it benefits the computers and the users. The
functions of the computer is independent with the hardware alone. So, what else is required for
the computer to work or function properly? It requires a set of procedures that are designed to
controls computer and tells the hardware how to work. There are two classifications of computer
software: Application Software and System Software. Application software are computer
programs that are designed for performing tasks. The application software may be for common
purpose (word processing, web browsers.) or have a specific purpose for example accounting.
System software are programs that are made to control the performance of the hardware and
facilitate the running of the application software. There are 3 types of system software:
Operating system, Utility Software and Language Translator. These are all designed to make the
users at ease when using their computers to perform a task. The focus and aim of this is been to
discover as much as I could on the computer software as well as the aspects of it. We have been
able to organise this assignment.

1. In your own word, give a definition for “software”
Ans: Software is programs, instructions, procedures that are used or designed to control the
computer system and it tells how to work. Software acts as an interface between the user and
the hardware.

2. What is the difference between application software and system software?
Ans: Application software is a program or group of programs designed for end users (a person
who actually uses a particular product. Application software is important because it helps users
to perform single or multiple tasks. Examples are email, word processing or spreadsheet
applications. The advantages of using any of these types of applications are to make the end
user’s life better. Email allows us to send messages long distances fast, word processors allow us
to write good looking documents much quicker and easier than we could with a typewriter or by
hand. Application software saves its user time, money and effort.
