CLIMATE ACTION! LET'S SAVE THE EARTH! What can we do? Reduce, reuse, and recycle Learn more at reallygreatsite.com Use no plastics Save energy CLIMATE CHANGE Climate change is the long-term alteration of temperature and typical weather patterns in a place. Climate change could refer to a particular location or the planet as a whole. CLIMATE Climate change refers to the long-term shifts in temperature and weather patterns. These shifts may be natural, such as through variations in the solar cycle. But since the 1800s, human activities have been the main driver of climate change, primarily due to burning fossil fuels like coal, oil, and gas. CLIMATE ACTION: SAVE THE EARTH! SAVE THE FUTURE! Keep fossil in the ground Invest in renewable energy Fossil fuels include coal, oil andd gas - and the more that are extracted and burned, the worse climate change will get. Changing our main energy sources to clean and renewable energy is the best way to stop using fossil fuels. Plant a tree Green your commute A single tree will absorb one ton of carbon dioxide over its lifetime. The many ways to reduce your transportation emissions will also make you healthier, happier and save you a few bucks. Start a climate conversation Solving climate change requires us all to do work together. We can't do that without finding common ground with those who may not share our perspective. Get politically active and vote Vote for leaders at all levels of government who take climate change seriously. Generating Power Generating electricity and heat by burning fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas causes a large chunk of global emissions. Most electricity is still produced from fossil fuels; only about a quarter comes from wind, solar and other renewable sources. Manufacturing Goods Manufacturing and industry produce emissions, mostly from burning fossil fuels to produce energy for making things like cement, iron, steel, electronics, plastics, clothes, and other goods. Mining and other industrial processes also release gases. Cutting Down Forests Cutting down forests to create farm or pastures, or for other reasons, causes emissions, since trees, when they are cut, release the carbon they have been storing. Since forests absorb carbon dioxide, destroying them also limits nature's ability to keep emissions out of atmosphere. Using Transportation Most cars, lorries, ships and planes run on fossil fuels. That makes transportation a major contributor of greenhouse gases, especially carbon-dioxide emissions. Road vehicles account for the largest part, but emissions from ships and planes continue to grow. Consuming Too Much Your home and use of power, how you move around, what you eat and how much you throw away all contribute to greenhouse gas emissions. So does the consumption of goods such as clothing, electronics and plastics. WHAT CAUSES CLIMATE CHNAGE? CLIMATE
