My nursing philosophy is that nursing is an empathy exercise. As you know, empathy is a crucial characteristic of a nurse that helps to build a trusting relationship with patients. Also, empathy can help a nurse understand patients’ feelings, emotions, and struggles. When I have clinical in healthcare settings, I always try to practice empathy. I believe nursing brings me a good chance to promote and enhance my empathetic ability. According to studies, empathy promotes patient satisfaction, patient outcomes, effective communication, and patient compliance. I believe nursing creates an empathetic person (Texas A&M International University, 2019.) From Table 1.6, I believe “Nursing as Lifetime Commitment” is a difficult meeting. A nurse’s duties are not only administering medication, doing assessments, interpreting lab values, reporting, and charting, but also taking care of patients’ physical needs, emotions, and spirit. Additionally, a nurse also takes care of patients’ families. Nursing is a challenging job that not everyone can do it. Many nurses leave the hospital and bedside jobs because of stress and burnout. However, many nurses really love their doings. They see their patients like their family members, and hospitals are their second home. In the future, I want to be a lifetime nurse as “Nursing as Lifetime Commitment.” To fulfill my dream, I have to create a strategy that helps me to overcome challenges in my nursing career. As a nurse, to take care of the patient, we have to take care of ourselves first. I will practice some stress-reducing techniques, such as meditation, yoga, or exercise.
