What are the benefits and disadvantages of online jobs over traditional jobs? We live in an era of technological changes, where so many things have evolved gradually or drastically by necessity. The way we do our jobs is one of them. For instance, the COVID19 pandemic has pushed companies to adopt online jobs very fast in order to survive. An online job is any job that allows you to work from home. On the other hand, traditional jobs require you to move daily to a specific location decided by your boss. So, in order to have a better comprehension of what is happening, this essay will do a comparison between both modalities to inform people. Both traditional and online jobs are part of working reality, even though they are very different in terms of schedule flexibility and costs reductions for either employee or employer, they are very similar in terms of goals. One of the first differences between traditional jobs and online jobs is the schedule. In a traditional job every worker must mobilize to a specific place at a specific hour. In fact, this has been the way most people have worked for centuries. Moreover, this way of working serves one main purpose for the employers which is that they can control the amount of work hours are done in a day. On the other hand, online jobs have no fixed schedule in most of the cases. Therefore, people can work at the pace they want or can. Additionally, most of the people in this system work from home and have to equilibrate house duties. For instance, a mother working from home has to take care of their children while she solves job issues. To sum up, what really matters in an online job is not how much time a person is working in front of a computer, but the accomplishment of objectives. Additionally, the costs inherent to a workplace is the second difference between these two ways of work. In traditional jobs, employers must give all the equipment, furniture and sometimes uniforms in order to start working. Furthermore, in some cases, the law obligates the employer to spend a lot of money to comply with safety regulation. Even though these regulations are necessary, the expenses can diminish profits. In contrast, the online jobs are not heavily regulated as traditional jobs. As a result, the employer can save a lot of money by avoiding these responsibilities. In fact, employees put their own internet, electric power, furniture and space. For instance, one of the most common things employers have to put by themselves are computers. However, this may not represent a problem for some people who focus on saving time and money in transportation. To summarize, online jobs can translate into cost savings for employers more than for employees, at least until regulations catch up. Finally, both ways of work coincide in their goals which are to make profit and be sustainable. Either online or traditional the reason to have a business is to make money from it. In order to achieve that, employers want the more productive workers. For example, in the case of online jobs, people are not wasting time dressing in white collar or stuck in traffic jams, they only have to focus on delivering what they have been asked to. In the same way, another important goal is the sustainability of businesses, which the online jobs have helped a lot in 2020. For instance, the option of online jobs has helped thousands of people amidst the COVID 19 pandemic to not lose their source of income and employers a way of continuing working and cushion the loss of profits. Moreover, Governments have realized the benefits of both types of jobs and made them equal before the eyes of labor legislation. To be brief, online jobs as well as traditional jobs make a good option to keep companies running and generating income. In conclusion, the differences between online and traditional jobs carry benefits and disadvantages for employers and employees both in schedule and costs. However, they share a similar goal which is to make profit and stay in business. Currently, we are facing a hard economic situation and despite our personal conception of how a job should be, we must embrace the opportunities that either online or traditional jobs give to us and take the most out of it.
